Comments: Hi Mags, fantastic that you keep us all informed about our wonderful Bulawayo. I was with RTV the ZRTV and then ZTV 1978 to 1987. Amazing years in the world of broadcasting. So many memories and just to let you know that both Mike and I are well and wish you all the best. Would love to hear from you yourself sometime.

Comments: Hi Maggs
I just want to thank you for all the articles you have written. I was raised in Zimbabwe but went to live with my parents abroad at a young age. It helps to read your wonderful stories about home that are not depressing or de-motivating.
Even though I am not able to return as much as I would like to your stories do make up for it greatly.
I hope you don't stop anytime soon.
Again I would like to say Thank You on behalf of every Zimbabwean abroad, you are a STAR

Wonderful piece about voices. I don't know any of them as I grew up in the UK and only recently (1999) came to Cape Town.
You may know that LM Radio has been back on the air for 2 years. Check out www.lmradio.co.mz
I present the Sunday afternoon show between 1 and 5.
All the best and thanks again for a lovely article.
Best wishes,

Hi Mags
It was wonderful to find your website and your Morning Mirror. I miss old Africa and I'm trying to reconnect with some of my roots.
At present I'm work in China but I hail from Africa - born in Mombasa, Kenya and grew up in South Africa. Travelled to Rhodesia as a child, a stone hit the windscreen on the unpaved road and I shivered the whole way to Salisbury. As an adult I worked in Francistown, Botswana for a couple years. We used to pop over to Bulawayo and overnight at the BYO camping ground, then have brunch at Sisters in Haddon and Sly. What memories!
Keep up the good work. I look forward to visiting regularly.

Comments: Its an honour to read your Bulawayo Mirror and catch up with whats happening. I was a very close friend of Geoff Crimes who contributed a number of articles to the mirror, and was very sorry to hear of his passing. Mag's you are doing a wonderful job against all odds, keep up the excellent work. A big " Hi" to any of my old friends who may still be in Byo.
Many thanks

Right now I am in the Melbourne Yacht Club, Florida, USA, with Dorothy. She is a world traveler, having been to Africa fourteen times in her travels. She has stayed at the Queen Mary House at least four time and wishes to return.
Is the House still in operation, and if so, how can we get in touch?

Comments: Just got back from a weekend in Bulawayo - have not been back since 2005.
I was pleasantly suprised by all the activity - little businesses open every were. Hillside was teeming with activity. We went out to dinner at Ascot Shopping Centre, went for a picnic at the Rhodes Matopos National Park, and visited the camp at Ncema Dam. Wow! Well done people. Good to see the pioneering spirit and the make-it-go-right besides obstacles. We are planning a fishing trip to Binga in November. This message is to those ex-Zimbabweans who may be considering a holiday there. Go! It was really lovely to see the recovery. Farmers are still being hurt and attacked, but businesses are trying their best and the atmosphere is buoyant. So, Go!

My sister has sent on the link to your site, and I was delighted to see the photos of the Centenary celebrations at Eveline. I started there as a Form 1 pupil (Vivienne Burl) in 1960, the year of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, and sent silent good wishes to Eveline last year. My late sister, Hilary was Head Girl in 1964. Winifred Powell was our Headmistress, with a marvellous staff. My husband's nephew is married to Celia Davies's granddaughter!
Glad to see the girls are still so smartly turned out in brown, maroon and pale turquoise!
Best wishes to Eveline High School!
I have great memories from a wonderful Bulawayo childhood.

Found your website at Barrow in Furness, Cumbria, UK public library. Hope all well and good your side. I arrived in UK only last May and haven't yet acclimatised - probably never will, but such is life.
Pse respond and tell me something about what you are up to. I'm currently writing a book of my memoirs of 40-yrs in the media in southern Africa, starting with my stint at RTV Byo 1969 - 1980. Such great memories, many of which now escape me but I'll bash on regardless.
Hope to hear from you soon.
All the best

Comments: Thanks for an interesting site about Bulawayo past and present.
I enjoyed Graham Kings article about Sister Roux's Nursing home. I was born there in 1952, my mother said it only had room for four mothers & was a really good environment.
I tried to find it last time I was in Bulawayo (1980) but without a full address I could not. Now I have the full address when I come to Bulawayo (soon I hope) I will look it up.

And compliments of the new season to you and your family. I have been viewing your photos and what an emotional time I am having seeing all those tremendously beautiful Bulawayo and Zims shots. I was born in Byo in 1959 and now reside in SA but alas all my family are still soldering on in Byo. I miss them all so much and really wish we could all still be together, especially over the Christmas period, when families should be around each other. Thank you for such a wonderful site. Keep up the excellent work and good spirits. I look forward to reading your letters this year. Take care. Lyn :D

Just read your article about the courts and your experience. I have read for many months your pages and wondered how you have had the strength to continue, but you have and I'm sure you will soldier on. Congratulations. May I through your Guestbook say hello to Frank Noble who knew my father John. He passed on in 1983 but his family name is still alive through my son Mark who incidently is a barrister here in Kent, hence my interest in your latest story. Best wishes from UK.

Thank you for your website! Thanx to Kim for introducing me to it.... Oh wow... its also brought back such fond memories and a few tears to my eyes for sure. I was born and raised in Bulawayo... lived in SA for 20 odd years, and am now in Western Australia. Hated SA.. Aus is okay, but NO place will ever match Bulawayo .. I think of it every day and pray for things to come right there. God bless you Mags Kriel for keeping Bulawayo alive in our hearts!

Comments: This is from Frank Noble, present Pipe Major of the Bulawayo Pipe band, still living in Bulawayo! I joined in March 1956. The band was originally formed by the Caledonian Society only later becoming a private company.
I have all the drums and drum majors mace and most of band kit as well as minutes of the band from it's inception. I played at the funerals of Erenie Cox, Murray Reid, both tenor drummers. I would love to hear from ex members of the band.

Comments: Hi Mags, I was born and brought up in Bullies, did 4 years in the BSAP (77 - 81) and emigrated. Now living in UK. Get very homesick and sad when I see the news reports of the situation there. Still have afew of my wifes family living in Bulawayo. I am amazed at the reports, adverts etc on your site, of people trying to ove some sort of 'normal' life in the trying times. It was hard enough during the 70's but you all seem to just try and get on with it. Typical, may I say, 'Rhodie resolve'. One day I hope to bring my children there and show them what a magnificent country it is. God Bless and we are praying for Gods' intervention. Howard
