Hillside Women's Institute has just celebrated our 6lst Birthday,
and 
we would be most grateful for your help through Morning Mirror for 
two of our projects.
The first is our monthly Flea Market held at our Hall in Cecil
Avenue 
from 8 am to l2 on the first Saturday of each month.   We charge
$l00 
for the use of a table where goods of all kinds may be sold, and 
bookings may be made through me at Tel. 8867l7.
We have for 50 years been running a Library now operating at our
Hall 
on Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. and Saturday mornings from l0 -
l2.   
Because our Librarians are all voluntary helpers our charges are
much 
lower than other libraries, and we would welcome possible new
members 
to come and visit our Library which is on the Cecil Avenue side of 
the Hall.    We have a very popular Children's section with over
200 
members and would be grateful for the gift of children's books
should 
anyone be moving on.
Should anyone wish to book our Hall for a function or a meeting,
the

The response to the appeal for help for Lameck Kasuku in the
Bartley 
Block has been absolutely wonderful. Lameck already has his new TV 
& 
VCR installed!!  The generosity of the wonderful people in Byo  
restores one's faith in human nature.....Zimbabweans are without
any 
doubt the most super folk on the face of this earth.
The results of the appeal have gone further than just a new TV & 
VCR,   many other benefits will come Lameck's way.  I won't mention 
names here or go into detail, I don't want to embarrass the warm 
hearted , generous people concerned....but a BIG thankyou to those 
who have come forward to contribute towards improving the quality
of 
life of a courageous & inspiring man.

I had to drive past the tree three times to make sure my eyes were 
not deceiving me. Yesterday (September 7th) I saw my first flowers, 
for this season, on a Jacaranda tree. It is on Banff Road opposite 
the bus stop between Leander Avenue and the bowling club.

Zimbabwe are African rugby champions


Rabat, Morocco -  The Zimbabwean national rugby team won the
African 
Cup of Nations by beating Morocco 10-3 in Sunday`s final played in 
Casablanca. The win puts Zimbabwe through to the 2007 World Cup to
be 
hosted by Ireland. The other African team at the World Cup will be 
guests South Africa. Morocco and Zimbabwe qualified for the final
on 
Friday with wins over Namibia (22-5) and Tunisia (41-3)
respectively. 
The African Cup of Nations kicked off on 25 August with Morocco,
Cote 
d`Ivoire, Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia, South Africa, Tunisia,
Uganda, 
Zambia and Zimbabwe participating.

SEEKING SISTER GARLAND

I am trying to find Miss Garland who is believed to have moved to
the 
UK or the Channel Islands with another nurse, Olga Boucher! Sorry
if 
there has been a mix up. Miss Garland was in charge of the Redrup 
women's ward at the Bulawayo Central. Just wanting to find out what 
the cost is for putting in a search for a person. Miss Garland was
a 
Charge Nurse when I did my nursing training at the Bulawayo
Hospital 
back in the 70's. She had been in charge fro many, many years and
was 
a fantastic chargy.
Also as an ex Zimbabwean I am trying to find a way to help 
Zimbabweans who are struggling back in Zimbabwe. Is there an honest 
charity that you know about?

ELECTRICITY SAVING HINTS

HAYBOX COOKING
A haybox can be used for cooking meals in one pot , and has the 
advantage that , once the food is in the haybox , it will cook on
its 
own without constant stirring & supervision . So , you can safely 
leave it & come back hours later to a hot meal .
It is particularly useful for foods such as dried beans that
usually 
take a long time to become soft , but is NOT suitable for foods
that 
cook quickly , such as vegetables and fish .
To make a haybox :
i)  line with crumpled newspaper ( or newspaper & hay or straw )
the 
bottom & sides of a large box or wooden case - to a depth of about 
10cms ;
ii)  make a " nest " in the middle ( to hold the pot of food ) &
line 
this nest with more crumpled newspaper ;
iii) fill a pot with the food to be cooked , bring to the boil ( on 
the stove ), & cook for half the normal cooking time ;
iv)  cover the pot tightly , place it in the haybox , cover it with 
layers of newspaper , then with a blanket or sleeping bag ;
v)   put a lid on the box & leave it for 3 x the normal cooking
time .
N.B. the food cools down as it cooks so may need reheating just 
before being served .
This is an ideal way to cook mealiemeal , which should be left in
the 
haybox for about 3 hours .
