LOCAL FOLKLORE HAS IT THAT WHEN AN EARTH TREMOR OCCURS IT IS A MORBID AND BAD SIGN. AND SO IT WAS FOR OUR LITTLE BULAWAYO COMMUNITY AS WE LOST MANY VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE RIGHT AFTER THE QUAKE. NOT AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE EARTH TREMOR, BUT CERTAINLY PEOPLE WHO OUR DIMINISHING COMMUNITY CANNOT POSSIBLY AFFORD TO LOSE.
DAVID GILLIES, DEARLY LOVED SON OF MERLE AND COLIN, BROTHER OF BRIDGETT. SUCH A SPECIAL YOUNG MAN WITH HIS WHOLE LIFE STRETCHING OUT IN FRONT OF HIM, SO MUCH TO BE DONE, SO MANY TALENTS AND SO MANY OBJECTIVES. WE GRIEVE WITH YOU ALL.
NEXT WAS PADDY GENNER, PADDY, WHOSE HUSBAND PETER DIED NOT SO LONG AGO, FEATURED IN THE LIVES OF SO MANY FOLK HERE IN BULAWAYO. PADDY WAS DEEPLY SPIRITUAL, DEEPLY LOVED AND WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED. PADDY TAIGHT YOGA, PEACE, TRANQUILITY AND STRENGTH FOR SO MANY REWARDING YEARS, SHE WILL BE A GREAT LOSS TO OUR LITTLE COMMUNITY.
YET ANOTHER SAD LOSS WAS LYN ABBOT, WIFE OF PETE FOR MANY HAPPY YEARS. LYN GAVE HER ALL TO HER FAMILY, TO ANIMALS AND TO HER DWINDLING COMMUNITY. ANIMALS WERE HER PASSION, ANIMALS AND PEOPLE.
LYN WAS THE FOUNDER OF S.O.A.P. (SUPPORT OLD AGE PENSIONERS) AND SHE WORKED TIRELESSLY TO MAKE THE LIVES OF SO MANY OF OUR PRECIOUS NEEDY OLD PEOPLE SO MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE AND WORTH LIVING.
LYN AND PETE TURNED THEIR WHOLE HOUSE INTO ONE BIG WAREHOUSE FOR GOODS FOR THE NEEDY, FOOD STUFFS, GROCERIES AND VEGGIES DONATED BY OUR AMAZING BULAWAYO COMMUNITY, WERE TUCKED AWAY IN EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY.
THE LIVES OF SO MANY WERE ENRICHED WHILE YOU WERE WITH US LYN, AND YOU ASKED THAT WE CONTINUE WITH YOUR WORK TO EASE THE SUFFERING OF THE OLD PEOPLE WHO HELPED TO BUILD THIS GREAT COUNTRY.
YOU WILL ALL BE SORELY MISSED AND BULAWAYO WILL BE MUCH THE POORER FOR YOUR LEAVING US.

LYN ABBOT, A LADY WHO ONLY EVER THOUGHT OF OTHERS AND HOW SHE COULD HELP THEM, NEVER OF HERSELF. HER ILLNESS WAS SO BRAVELY BORNE. CALLED BY GOD TO HELP IN HEAVEN. CONDOLENCES TO PETE AND ALL WHO KNEW THIS WONDERFUL LADY. SHE IS SO SADLY MISSED.
DAVE GILL.LYN
ABBOT
It is with deep shock that I learnt this morning of Lyn's sudden and
untimely death over the weekend.
A cheerful, caring and loving soul - you gave your time so freely to help the pensioners and aged folk in this city of ours, Lyn you were truly an example to us all.
Rest in peace.
Bulawayo mourns with you Pete.

So live this day that at the end you may be ashamed of nothing
and glad of something you have done or tried to do.
So live this day that at the end someone may bless you
for what you have done or tried to do.
So live this day that at the end you may with a clear conscience
look up to God who knows all you have done or tried to do.
Have the courage and the wisdom and the vision
to raise a definite standard that will appeal to the best that is in
man,
and then strive mightily toward that goal.
