Mike Francis Thank you so much for you Morning Mirror, I have just moved back to Bulawayo after 27 years in Harare and it's such a pleasure to be back after the penury in bamba zonke ! Cheers....Mike Francis NEWS FROM JOAN SWINDELLS Its Joan Swindells here from Bulawayo - now living in Perth. I really enjoy reading your Morning Mirror - it has some really interesting articles. Keep up the good work. DAFFYDD JONES dafidious@takkieslapper.freeserve.co.uk Ashleigh Barnes It really made me feel so much more in touch - one feels rather isolated and you so soon get out of how things are at home. I was totally amazed to see the prices of things - even though my family keep me quite up to date with things. I was also amazed to see that the BPOis still running and, by the sounds of it, still having great concerts. My mum said that the evening up at Hwange went very well too. I am very pleased for them - especially after spending so much of my timegrowing up in the music world in Bulawayo. WHERE IS BILL FRANCKLIN? I have been given your email address in the hope that you can help me trace my godfather who lived in Harare. His name is Bill Francklin, and he was a radio presenter. I would be really grateful for any information you may have about him and his family. He was a close friend of our family, but sadly we have lost touch, though we think of them often. We have just spent a weekend with some Zimbabwean friends who tell me that you are doing wonderful work in Zimbabwe and they are so thankful for your Morning Mirror. I hope you can continue to help the people there, the situation sounds desperate. Can you send me the website for Morning Mirror, I would love to read it. Many thanks for any help you can offer. Spencer Rowley I stumbled across one of your internet 'letter' this evening, and I just have to admit it brought tears to my eyes. Such memories, the voices that I remember from the RBC. I feel somewhat embarrassed to say that had I not read the article, perhaps so many of those precious memories would never have re-surfaced. Bless You! Witness for Zimbabwe I was born in Canada and, with my parents, came to live in Zimbabwe. Of late many people have, for whatever reason, decided to search for greener pastures. I did the same believing that I belonged back in Canada and would find what I sought. After some time there, I began to realize that, after all, despite our present problems, I belong here in Zimbabwe, my home. I could not stay away any longer and just had to return. I have a firm belief that we will prevail with a new order, soon to be established and I will see my country prosper again. Betsy and Bruce Fulton are absolutely delighted to announce that their youngest daughter, Melanie Joy, became engaged to Matthew Houghton of Harare, on 4th August, 2003. "DICK AND CATHY COOPER ANNOUNCE THE ENGAGEMENT OF THEIR DAUGHTER ALIZA TO FRITZ YOUNGER SON OF PHIL AND ROSIE BOTHA " Dorothy Taylor Dearest Mom and Nana - passed away peacefully on the 29/7/2003. You will always remain in our hearts and remembered in our prayers, R.I.P. in heaven with Pops. Will miss you, Brian, Maureen, Teresa, Dorothy, Sheila, Rob, Mike and great grandchildren. Bob Grobler We are grieved to announce the death in Bulawayo of Bob Grobler, much loved husband of Anne and father of Babette, Janine and Gavin. Malcolm Jansen. Malcolm spent the evening of Friday August 1st, doing what he loved most, practicing on his Bag Pipe Chanter. He was particularly happy, as he put together music for his Highland dancers for curtain call. A heart attack during the night called him to the great massed Pipe Band in the hereafter. He was a fine Piper, and a Pipe tune writer. He selflessly played for the enjoyment of others, some times traveling great distances to play at weddings or Funerals, expecting nothing in return. He was a very long time member of the Bulawayo Pipe Band, and for the last 15 years, was the regular Piper for the Scottish and Highland dancers. He has also been piper to the Chief of the Bulawayo Caledonian Society, and he was Honorary Grand Piper for the District Grand Lodge of Zimbabwe, Scottish Constitution. The Pipe Major and all members of the Bulawayo Pipe Band recognise and salute his contribution to the Great Highland Bagpipe, and offer sincere condolences to his wife Helen You can find a most interesting article on Zimbabwe in the August issue of the National Geographic Magazine Non-violence is a very deep philosophy. Not only does it require me to harm no one physically, but also to avoid harming anyone's self-respect. Such an ethic requires tremendous awareness and sensitivity. When I have learned to be gentle with myself, I can be the same with others. See the website Chirundu.com "A Place for Homesick Africans" Put Your Rubbish Bin On Your Desk And Label It "In." |
