Our nephew Mark qualified as a Chartered Accountant this weekend and we are very proud
of him. HeeHoo and I sat proudly on our way to Chimanimani and counted up all the
degrees we have in our family !! We really are a brilliant academic lot !! We have a wide
array of degrees from Microbiology to Metallurgy, and from Journalism to Human
Movement Studies !!
Especially me ... I have a B.Con (Bachelor of Connections) and I now have a P.H.D (Pot
Hole Dodger )
The trip to Chimanimani was delightful, we stayed en route at a small game lodge outside
Masvingo called Pa-Nyanda, where genuine warm hospitality mingled with good company
and good food. As we left the lowveld and began climbing up into the mountains, the St
Joseph's Lilies were out in all their glorious profusion and the hedgerows were filled with
lovely summer wild flowers.
HeHoo and I do a lot of travelling and we enjoy each other's company. Mom always told me
" Marry a man you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as
important as any other. " !!
In Chimanimani the population had increased by one, as Mike and Queenie now have a
bonny boy name Matthew, and the village was looking clean and spruce in preparation for
the Chimanimani Arts Festival in a months time.
The garden needed some serious work after all the rain and HeeHoo and I did an honest
days work before returning home, rather the stiff and worse for wear !!
Aches and pains are becoming more and more common I am very irritated to say !!
I know it is all in the mind .... I know I am heading for a Milestone Birthday .... but I still
feel twenty one ... so how come I found myself tottering that night at the Pa-Nyanda
Lodge.
Yes, actually "tottering", I know it was dark and the slasto floor was uneven, but really,
there was no need to TOTTER for goodness sake !!
Old age is not for sissies !! Just imagine how much pain we would be in if wrinkles hurt !!
The only blessing is, that the older one gets, so one's eyes get dimmer and one cannot see
too clearly the havoc which has been wreaked upon one's bod !!
Maybe it's true that life begins at fifty ... but everything else starts to wear off, fall down,
or spread out.
I know I have loads of experience and wisdom behind me, that should be a comforting
thought !! but by the time a girl is wise enough to watch her step, she's too old to go
anywhere ..... but I made a mental note to myself - no more tottering !!

"When trials are greatest and all goes wrong,
Just buckle your armour and trudge along.
The way that's weary, dark, and cold
May lead to shelter within the fold.
These trials were meant to make you strong,
So buckle your armour and trudge along."

To learn through listening, practice it naively and actively. Naively means that you listen
openly, ready to learn something, as opposed to listening defensively, ready to rebut.
Listening actively means you acknowledge what you heard and act accordingly. --Betsy

Whatever we are going through, GOD is still seated on his throne and '' GOD IS LOVE''
Happiness is not that elusive. It's all about the choices you make.
I believe happiness is something you choose and in my job I coach people to make better
choices (by "better" I mean those decisions that lead to more happiness). I've specifically
used the word "choose" because each of its letters stands for one of the six key happiness
strategies that work to enhance happiness and quality of life.
"C" stands for clarity (of goals, direction and life purpose). Happy people have a clearer
sense of life purpose and direction; they set clear goals and generate specific and practical
plans to ensure these goals become a reality. So clarify your life plan now (no-one else
will do it for you) and make sure your vision for the future is a positive one filled with joy
and happiness.
"H" is for healthy living, which includes obvious things such as physical activity, diet and
nutrition, as well as the less obviously, but vitally important, sleep and rest. Health forms
a crucial part of the foundation to happiness. So, do whatever you can to be healthy and
you'll also boost your chances of being happy.
"O" stands for optimistic thinking, which is not exactly the same as positive thinking.
Optimists are undoubtedly positive, but they're also realistic. There's no doubt that happy
people think about themselves, others and the world differently. They search for more
positives but they also acknowledge and face the cold hard realities of the day in a
constructive way. The good news is that if you're not a natural optimist this is something
you can learn, so start practising now.
"O" is for others, which is another way of referring to all those relationships in your life.
Despite some of the myths and misconceptions about happiness, happy people are not
selfish but rather, they have both more and better quality relationships. Happy people are
more generous, more altruistic, more loving and more helpful. So make sure you devote
time to developing and fostering your key relationships - it's good for you and your loved
ones. One of the more exciting aspects of positive psychology is that it focuses just as
much, if not more, on identifying and developing what's good in a person, as it does in
trying to fix what's wrong with them.
"S" stands for strengths, which is another way of describing your core talents, qualities
and attributes. Whether we realise it or not, and many of us unfortunately don't, we all
have strengths. Rather than spending all their time trying to "fix" their "weaknesses" ,
happy people spend more time identifying and utilising these unique and incredibly
valuable assets. So find out what you're really good at and do it as much as possible.
"E" is a reminder to enjoy the moment. There really is only one time when we can truly be
happy and that's in the here and now. Happy people learn from the past and plan for the
future, but they're much better at living in, and appreciating, the present' they focus more
on what they have and less on what they don't have. So practice living in the moment and
you'll find you also enjoy life more.
"CHOOSE" to be happy now; life's too short not to.
Fw: C'mon get happy (by Dr Timothy Sharp)
Have compassion for everyone you meet,
even if they don't want it.
What appears bad manners, an ill temper or cynicism
is always a sign of things no ears have heard,
no eyes have seen.
