Zim Quirks ZIMBABWE BLOOPERS

There are some delightful aspects about life in Zimbabwe, which I suppose we should share with you as I know you will all be coming back to live with us quite soon !!

For example, when attending a wedding or a symphony concert, there are no announcements necessary to "turn off your mobile phone during the ceremony" as not one cell phone has rung for the past few weeks in Zimbabwe.

No need to make a shopping list any more ... just buy whatever there is (but only if you have your BIG cheque book)

Slimming is easy, we are not a nation of fizzy drink drinkers ....when did you last have a cocoa cola or a slice of bread ?

Zimbabwe has three main official languages ... English, Shona and Ndebele ... but the local TV station plays Chinese movies all day long.

In England, folk congregate to see the rare "Spotted Blue Tit " on the Yorkshire Downs, Bulawegians gather around a tree with pink flowers that has been in the city for fifty years, and argue its ancestry and botanical heritage furiously.

How many countries do you know of who have caused an English Archbishop to cut his dog collar into tiny fragments ? I wonder how many thousands of caring folk will be sending him a new dog collar one day ?

How many countries as tiny as Zimbabwe can talk of budgets in the QUADRILLIONS, ours is much more than the USA budget !!

Every single item in my supermarket trolly last week was over a million dollars, including the bread and the milk !!

Why is there a shortage of soap when we only get water twice a week ?

But it's raining, and when it rains in Africa, smiles are wide, tempers are cooled, things are good and who cares about all of the above ?

Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognise: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child -- our own two eyes.

All is a miracle. -- Thich Nhat Hanh

Mrs Calder, Andrew and Simon, our thoughts are with you - Elaine, Rowland and Michelle Rixon-Fuller

CALDER, DAVID THOMAS GRAY

Most dearly loved husband and father to Sharon, Simon and Andrew, so loved by Tara and Bridget.. You cared and gave so much! Now at peace with your Lord and Saviour, who, in time, will turn our mourning into dancing again.

An enormous thank you to our very special family, most wonderful friends, and Sister Daphne Clark for the love, care and support over the past year. You all helped to lighten a very heavy burden. May God bless you all in return.
