I am a farmer's wife, mother, daughter, currently registered general nurse and midwife - trained in the days when nursing was an important skill and vocation. I am setting up a service to visit relatives left in care when their families left Zimbabwe. I will be operating from Harare. I think that there are many people who left Zimbabwe with heavy hearts because they had to leave behind parents who could not move or did not want to move when their children left the country. The children who emigrated may be looking for someone who can visit their parents (or other relatives) and check up on them. Check to see how their health (physical, emotional, mental) is; check to see if they need anything done for them; be a substitute daughter and give regular accurate reports on their well being. This is the service that I am offering to provide for a small fee. I have worked with old people and have experience of their needs. As a daughter, I know how important it is to know exactly how your parent is and how difficult it is to know from a distance. The problem that I am facing is in advertising this service. He gets about by walking on his knees and hands, they are so full of calluses. He is now school going age. I am looking for Early learning books (second hand) Old crayons, it does not matter if they are broken. A book that can teach him colours, anything will do for the little fellow. Half used colouring in books would be welcome. Twice a week I take him to KG 1V Children's Centre for physiotherapy. The physiotherapist says he is such a happy little soul and tries so hard with his exercises. She says usually these children are very introverted etc etc. she is amazed at his outgoing attitude. We are hoping that when he gets his splints he will go onto calipers and crutches. It all costs money. Maybe some kind person who reads this would be able help with crutches etc. Justine would benefit by anyone donating him longs (for about 6 years old) as he has worn the knees out of the few he has. Any underpants for a 5 year old . Old shirts. Old jerseys etc etc. Anorak, gloves for his little hands, socks, any old clothes will do. Toys would be wonderful, second hand cars, even if they have no wheels he would love them. I have made him a sandpit and a bucket and spade would be great.
