Beware Conman

Please be aware that there is a conman on the loose who passes himself off as either Dr Moyo or Mr Moyo who works for doctors at Lancet House/Galen House. He ordered Hewlett Packard printer cartridges from us and when we delivered to 3rd Floor Lancet house as indicated by this man, he snatched the packet of goods and ran off before I could stop him. He will try and sell these cartridges at a cut price (+/- $80,000.00 for black and +/- $85,000.00) for colour.

The man is of medium height and is of slim build. Should anyone be offered HP cartridges from a person on the street, please be aware that these may well be stolen goods and he should be detained and the police informed.

My police case number is IR13710/03

In discussions with other suppliers this man has been on the loose for some time. Should anyone be approached by this man I would be grateful if I could be informed.

Thanks

Castrol 4x4 Jamboree and Outdoor Expo

Excitement mounts as the date for the 2003 Castrol 4x4 Jamboree and Outdoor Expo draws nearer. Don't forget that it takes place on Saturday July 19 and Sunday July 20 at the 4x4 site, Donnybrook, home of Zimbabwean motorsport. Times of action are 8.30am to 5pm on day one and 8.30am to mid-afternoon on day two. Prize-giving will be at about 3.30pm on Sunday.

  • Special thanks once again to the principal sponsors of the 2003 Castrol 4x4 Jamboree: Castrol Zimbabwe, Toyota Zimbabwe, Dunlop Zimbabwe and National Tyre Services.

  • Good news for all fans of Formula 1: Multi-Choice Zimbabwe has kindly agreed to put on a special screening of the big race on the afternoon of Sunday July 20, in a marquee at the Outdoor Expo arena. This means you can enjoy a full weekend at the jamboree and not have to waste fuel by going home or elsewhere to watch the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Thanks to Peter van Deventer and the team at MultiChoice Zimbabwe for this kind gesture.

  • Sharon School will be doing some serious fundraising at the jamboree through efforts by the school's PTA to help in various ways. The school's parents will be manning the entrance gate, helping distribute refreshments in the competition area and also manning the teas stand throughout the weekend. Well done for getting involved and good luck with your fundraising.

  • Exhibitors now fully confirmed for the Outdoor Expo include Toyota Zimbabwe and Mike Harris Toyota, Dunlop and NTS, McDonald Timbers, Safeline Brakes, Big Sky Supplies and Tyre Centre, Mr Cruiser, Prism Motors and Nissan Zimbabwe. There are a further 14 in the melting pot and we shall sign these up during the next few days. If you would like to take part e-mail by return to the sender of this or call 091 201890 or 861549.

  • This year's jamboree programme, like that for 2002, will take the form of a special pullout supplement to The Standard newspaper. This will be published on Sunday July 13. If you would like to advertise in this please call Webster Mapani on 091 298 964. You will be reaching more than 400 000 readers of the paper plus all the visitors to the jamboree.

  • Cellstop have come on board the event as the fourth sponsor of the jamboree - the first time they have been involved. Welcome aboard and we hope you will gain as much from the event as you expect.

  • A couple of dozen drivers have signed up so far for the event and we are hoping for up to 45 to be finally signed up when the event kicks off. More information and bookings can be made with Rose Stead at Mowpower.

  • A reminder about the special events being laid on for the spectators' enjoyment and as a challenge to the drivers: the Mowpower X-treme Challenge on Sunday morning, the SpanSet Mud Run and, of course, the Mr Cruiser Log Run (a newcomer to the jamboree - welcome and thanks).

See you at the jamboree !!

Urgent Appeal, Zimbabwean ZNSPCA worker needs support.

ZIMBABWE NATIONAL SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS - PVO 38/69

Chief Inspector Meryl Harrison ailing

Sadly but not surprisingly, the strain of the last three years have taken their toll on our valiant Meryl, who continues bravely to head the rescues in Zimbabwe under increasingly difficult conditions. Our '60-something' Chief Inspector has suffered from a heart condition since she was a young woman but has always kept her condition and the pain and discomfort she experiences hidden from most. She has on several occasions been rushed to hospital to stabilise her heart rate, but the incidents have become increasingly frequent and it is now essential that she undergoes the necessary 'keyhole' surgery (electrical ablation) to prevent a potentially fatal attack. The operation is not available in Zimbabwe and it will be necessary for Meryl to travel to South Africa for the procedure to be carried out. With the non-availability of foreign currency in Zimbabwe, we would like to appeal to anyone who could assist in this regard to contact our sister organisation in South Africa, the NSPCA - spca@global.co.za . In recognition of the invaluable role that Meryl has played in rescuing and safeguarding literally hundreds of thousands of animals, we would like to do all that we can to help our brave champion. We realise how generous and supportive everyone has been with contributions towards the valiant work of the rescue team but are confident you will help if you can or pass this on to anyone who is in a position to assist with ensuring that Meryl will be able to continue with her outstanding animal welfare work in the future.

One of her numbers for the forthcoming Ballet Society Curtain Call, at the Bulawayo Theatre in August, has the girls wearing black bowler hats. We have 5 but Judy needs a further 6. Would any kind people be prepared to lend bowlers to her? Judy says she will guard the hats with her life!

IDEAS FOR WARMTH !!

Wonder if you'd like to pass on a few tips to help keep warm ! I've found them very effective.

If you aren't using your fireplace, block it off by taping newspaper or a sheet over it.

For a warmer bathroom - tape the bottom of the closed curtains to the wall. Remember to tape it before the steam gets on the wall/tiles or the tape won't stick.

Place a towel along bottom of bathroom door.

Simple ideas but they help to keep Jack Frost OUT !

Shirley.

S.O.S.

This is an S O S to anyone who could help me with material to cordon off my small cottage area.

This is to keep my farm dog (large) from crossing a very busy road to an uninhabited area where she has discovered that there's often 'titbits' thrown in our very rural surroundings.

She is not street-wise, and my fear is coming home after work and finding her run over by one of the trucks which frequent this route.

Unfortunately all the suitable material I could have used had been abandoned on our farm and not obtainable.

The section needing to be closed is about 40 meters and needs a gate of sorts as well. I will accept any thing; wood, old, rusty, etc. at a fair price, or paying off arrangements can be made.

Thank you Brenda
