Subject: Proudly Zimbabwean Independence Day Statement

We, Proudly Zimbabwean, are a FaceBook based social interaction group that seeks to restore pride of homeland in all Zimbabweans. We are a non-racial, non-tribal and apolitical group that welcomes not only Zimbabweans in the diaspora and at home, but also friends of the people of Zimbabwe everywhere.

We believe Zimbabweans are a hospitable sunny people, capable of co-existing in prosperous tranquility, actively interacting and developing their budding democracy. We are convinced that every Zimbabwean, from the vagrant in the street to our Presidency, accepts Zimbabwe to be a multi-racial society with equal freedoms, liberties and rights either end of the social spectrum.

It is in this spirit that we reject the racial overtones currently clouding our beloved homeland. It is from these firm founding foundations that we denounce the continued invasions of kinsfolk's property in flagrant violation of due process of law or respect to property rights. It is from this solid rock that we speak against these injustices that continue to tarnish the good name of our nation. We are appealing to fellow brothers and sisters to take note of the effect of these acts upon the welfare of the nation. We implore all leadership to deliberate upon future repercussions of these crimes if perpetrators go unpunished. We urge all arms of the law to rise above partisanship inclinations and be loyal to the constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

We appeal to all community leaders to raise their voices and highlight these injustices. We ask all the media to report fearlessly upon this festering wound sitting upon the psyche of our nation. We invite the religious community to highlight these unjust assaults on peaceful members of society. Our rallying cry is that an injustice to one is an injustice to all, in as much as a crime by one is crime committed by all.

We hunger for sanity, justice, peace and prosperity in our lands. That daughters and sons at home and in foreign lands may raise their heads in pride and be proud of their leaders, kinsfolk and homeland. We wish to stand shoulder to shoulder with other nations and be a voice not of virulent dissent but tempered reason. And we strongly believe this is all possible today.

That today more than ever, our time for prosperity is here. Today is our time for us to find reason to smile. To share brotherhood with all kinsfolk regardless of colour, creed or clan. Our day, to chase our dreams with complete freedom of thought and action. Our, day to celebrate our independence with dignity, respect, equal freedoms and great pride. That today, as the sun rises, it carries our united dreams to realization.

We know this without a doubt, for the strength and passion is manifest within us and all our leadership. For it took a great and humble man to say, 'It could never be a correct justification that because whites oppressed us yesterday when they had power, the blacks must oppress them today because they have power. The National Gallery in Bulawayo, in conjunction with Alliance Francaise and HIVOS is proud to bring you 'From Confrontation to Reconciliation', an art exhibition by seven local artists on Thursday 30th April, 2009, National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo @ 5.30pm :

From Confrontation to Reconciliation is a group exhibition of paintings and graphics by Bulawayo's dedicated artists. Comprised of Shamilla Aasha, Aubrey Bango, Sikhulile Sibanda, Khumbulani Mpofu, Tafadzwa Gwetai, Owen Maseko and Charles Bhebe.
Set to open on Thursday the 30th of April 2009 at the National Gallery in Bulawayo, the exhibition seeks to be part of the healing of the nation. At the time when we, as a nation, attempt to acquire a special place in the minds of the people across the whole world, there is no better way to reach out other than through Art.

Through this show the Gallery celebrates our ability to come back to our senses and show the world that together as a nation we can rebuild and become a powerhouse once again. We can not do this in isolation. We need the help of the world and the world helps us, it is time for introspections; and to mend our ways; refocus; reconcile and move onward, forward and Godward. We celebrate the government of national unity with hope, creative energy and enthusiasm.

Perhaps you would be interested to know that we went to Harare for Easter to be with old friends and also do some business like find text books and obtain a long birth certificate.

Regarding the latter, I thought I should let you know about the charming officials at the office in the Drill Hall in Harare, their efficiency - Heaven knows how! -and the speed with which I got the long birth certificate I have been trying for for 5 years from Esigodini and Bulawayo. Also there had to be a correction - all done quickly - and the payment was still the 20000$Z I had paid nearly 2 years ago. It was very heartening and I thought it was worth telling you about something good!

Bulawayo Help Network has recently launched an appeal on behalf of Dr Alan Pugh who has been very ill and hospitalised for some weeks. He is now home and slowly recovering.

Toll fees on the major highways come into effect on Friday with those driving
light vehicles being required to pay $2,
while the toll on minibuses is $3, buses $5, heavy vehicles $7 and haulage vehicles $10

Diplomats, government and Zimra vehicles are exempt, according to Statutory Instrument 39 of 2009 issued by Transport, Communications (note this is now in the portfolio) and Infrastructural Development Minister Nicholas Goche.

The tolling points are as follows:
Harare-Mutare (Crocodile Hotel, Rusape and Riverside, Odzi),
Harare-Nyamapanda (13 miles, btw the 19.5km and 20.5km pegs),
Harare-Chirundu (Inkomo Barracks turnover, 40km from Harare),
Harare-Gweru (Norton flyover, 44.5km from Harare),
Bulawayo-Victoria Falls (Cinderalla (sic) turn off, 6kms from Hwange),
Masvingo-Bulawayo (Mashava, 53km from Masvingo),
Gweru-Bulawayo (Somabhula turn off, 17km from Gweru).
The Herald on Tuesday (April 14) has a story on Pg 2 with motorists 'expressing concern' over the fees. Commuter operators say this will result in higher fares while retailers imply it will result in higher prices. However, the Comment on Pg 4 is quite forceful in its view 'Motorists must pay up'.

Please could someone verify for me whether this last Saturday (11th April), the day after Good Friday, is a public holiday in Zimbabwe or not?

ATTENTION MOMS.

Daymother soon to be available, depending on response. I am sure there must be many mothers out there who need or want to work and are looking for safe, reliable and loving care for their babies. Although many maids are wonderful, not everyone is happy to leave their baby with a domestic worker and there is a lack of care facilities available for babies from birth to 18 months.

I am a mom of three older children. I have been interested in doing daymothering for a few years and feel that now is the right time. I am well versed in child care, my standards are very high and I understand so well how important it is for working mothers to have faith in and peace of mind with their child care arrangements. I have an understanding of and a genuine love for children and feel that I am knowledgeable and sensible in all areas of childcare. I do know first aid and am very particular about child safety.

I am planning to offer places to between four and six babies aged from 3 months to 18 months in a secure, caring and loving home environment. I will provide age appropriate stimulation and individual, loving attention. I am centrally situated in Malindela and my hours will be from 7.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Monday to Friday including school holidays.
