I find it discouraging when I find a glass company charging 120 Rands for a small piece of plain glass on my head lamp. In Francistown it was 20 Pula.

To replace a timing belt I have to supply Bulawayo price 400 Rands, Francistown 300 Pula. Bulawayo mechanic says that is equal. Sorry 40 Pula is significant money to me.

I charge less than half Botswana prices for my services! In other fields people want significantly more. I am not wealthy enough to pay extra for the privilege of using Zim.
Still waiting for Local to be competitive.

The Matabeleland Dog Training club,
which meets every Sunday during the term at Girl's College hockey field, has decided to change the times of training. The times will now be; 8.30 for the advanced group & 9.00 for beginners. If anyone wants more information, they can phone me, Rhona Hayes, on 288831 in the evenings.
We will recommence training on the 10th May.

Its very nice to call all the old girls of Coghlan School, but why leave the old boys out???
Coghlan did have coed Grade 1 & 2 classes once upon a time. I was taught there by the very wonderful Mrs Pattison (I am sure lots of people in Bulawayo will remember her and her husband George Pattison, who was also a teacher), and a certain Miss Dale who used to drive a blue combi alla-Woodstock. I left Coghlan at the end of 1986 and went on to Milton Junior which at the time did not have Grade 1 and 2 classes. I think Coghlan stopped taking boys a couple of year's later. I am not sure when Milton Junior started its Grade 1 & 2 classes, but they were put wherever they would fit until new classrooms could be built.

I can try and help financially. I haven't actually been back to Coghlan since I left. Is there anyone doing anything for Milton Junior out there??? Please let me know if there is.

A wonderful Christian family is coming to Bulawayo from Sat. or Sun. July 4th or 5th. and will stay until Sun. Aug. 2nd.

They do so much for the underprivileged in our community and have done so for many years now. Would anyone like them to house sit for them over this period. (Of course, they will pay for all utilities, house workers, etc.)

Bulawayo Help Network has recently launched an appeal on behalf of Dr Alan Pugh who has been very ill and hospitalised for some weeks. He is now home and slowly recovering.
However, the medical bills are huge and despite the generous donations of several friends, the family are under great duress.

The sentiments expressed in 'Let's go forward together' are very noble but I am sick to death of being ripped off by our fellow Zimbabweans.
We went to SA last week to buy a replacement generator as we saved R11 000 by buying a South African make which has spares back up. Try and find spares for an imported Asian variety in this country! Two businesses in town have these Asian generators in stock @ R18 000 each.
Second hand spares at a local Japanese spares importer work out at plus 300% what you would pay for new spares in SA. Locally produced Olivine brand plums are available in Bulawayo at R15 per tin - tinned fruit in SA is half that price. Yesterday I was quoted R300 for a replacement sensor for our house alarm - I am sure when I buy it in SA later this week it will cost me less than R100.
So when the sharks disappear I might just start supporting local industry and businesses until then I shall take my business and money south of the border.

just read the latest MM. Of interest I had a comment on LETS GET THE WHEELS OF LOCAL INDUSTRY ROLLING AGAIN! This is a great idea, it worked during UDI so it should work now but the difference, there was a govt that backed it fully and didn't have a divisive agenda at the time. There was a mention of product replacement and Marmite and Bovril was mentioned and the writer advised we didn't have a local equivalent, BUT WE DID, it was Vegex and Bovex (not sure about bovex) but definitely Vegex, my mum put it on our school lunch sambo's in the 70's, it was great!

So what's been happening? I hear the honourable Minister of Education passed up a luxury Merc, gee I wonder why? Darn those principles! Kidding... He did the right thing I emailed him and congratulated him on taking a stand. I still remember Ian Smith as PM driving his Peugeot 404 pick up, on his own no less, during war time!
