POST SCRIPT ON BEAUTY PAGEANT

The beauty pageant/fashion show and beerfest at the tin cup last weekend was a great success until around 3.30pm when a whirlwind crossed the car park and removed a jumping castle from it's moorings. In the ensuing chaos. one boy broke a rib and suffered serious bruising and another girl broke a wrist. The other children, although very shaken were largely unhurt. We are thankful that the situation, terrible as it was, was not much worse. The Fun Factory wishes both children the speediest of recoveries and send their best wishes to that effect.
Apart from the whirlwind incident, the event was a great success, the fashion show was well received, the beauty parade well regarded and the beer was reported to be very cold!. Many thanks to all who attended.

All money taken at the shop goes directly to running our kennels. There is enormous pressure on the kennels and clinic in these difficult times and every little bit helps such a lot. We take anything such as books, magazines, bottles, plastic bottles, HTH bottles, records, patterns, ornaments, pictures, picture frames, cutlery, crockery, newspapers, costume jewelry, used cards, electrical appliances dead or alive, clothing, games, games equipment, jam jars, in fact anything you do not want we can make use of. PAB and the Academy - Karajan conducts Richard Strauss Monday 8 December in the Robert Sibson Hall at 5.15 p.m. Admission by donation The second in the series features Strauss's self-portrait, "A Hero's Life", with virtuoso use of a vast orchestra in Karajan's last recording of the work made only a year before death in 1989. The programme will also include "Don Juan" in a performance conducted by Sir Georg Solti which will act as a curtain-raiser to the "Orchestra!" series to be shown in the first term 2009.

Friday 12 December in the Robert Sibson Hall at 7.30 p.m. Admission by donation A performance of Handel's oratorio recorded in the Pieterskerk, Leiden in the Netherlands by the Choir of King's College, Cambridge and the Brandenburg Consort conducted by Stephen Cleobury with soloists Lynne Dawson (soprano), Hillary Summers (alto), John Mark Ainsley (tenor) and Alastair Miles (bass).

A Christmas Celebration : Saturday 13 December
Robert Sibson Hall at 4.00 p.m. The choir of the New Apostolic Church invite you to a Christmas Celebration, their annual carol concert which will be held at the Zimbabwe Academy of Music for the first time. Come and join them in the singing of Christmas carols and hymns of praise and experience the joy of the festive season. Conducted by Christopher Situmbeko, accompanied by Deon Marcus (organ/piano) , the concert will also feature solos by Pieter Cloete (tenor) and Amanda Cloete (Soprano) and will include many well-known and much loved Christmas Carols.

On one level it is a fifty-minute depiction of the ascent of an Alpine peak, at another an allegory of life scored with immense resource for an orchestra of over 120 players.

PAB and the Academy - A Christmas Carol: Ballet
Friday 19 December in the Robert Sibson Hall at 8.00 p.m. "A Christmas Carol", premiered by the Northern Ballet Theatre in 1992 and described as "an opulent mixture of ballet, musical and theatre", is closely based on Dickens' story and has a score by Carl Davis that incorporates many well-known carols. The production toured Britain, meeting with great success, and was even presented in China. The reviews were full of praise with the Guardian writing of "unassailable magic, the heartstrings are truly plucked" whilst the Daily Express recommended the ballet as "perfect Christmas entertainment" . Earlier in the afternoon at 4.00 p.m. there will be two more episodes in the Planet Earth series, Ocean Deep & Saving Species and these will be followed by a supper break at 6.30 p.m., i.e. BEFORE "A Christmas Carol".

PAB and the Academy - Puccini: La Boh me
Tuesday 23 December in the Robert Sibson Hall at 7.00 p.m. There will be a supper interval. The Puccini series ends with "La Boh me" on the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth on 23 December 1858 - and, as the first two acts of the opera are set on Christmas Eve, it is even more appropriate to show it at this time! Based on Zeffirelli's spectacular production from La Scala Milan, this DVD version is conducted by Herbert von Karajan, "second to none as a Puccini interpreter, pointing the great emotional climaxes unerringly", and features "Mirella Freni as a meltingly beautiful Mimi and the underrated Gianni Raimondi as a forthright Rodolfo with a ringing, unrestrained tenor". I have a subject which needs debating upon and a decision to be made, Maggie.

It's whether to give way to the Right at all these non-working robots in the country, or whether to treat the junctions as a 4-way stop as in S.A. I would think not many people respect 4-way stops in this country, but it also looks like they don't know their highway codes either, and often won't give way to the right.

Could we start a debate somehow, and then get a by-law passed (Simon Spooner, are you there?) What does the general population think?

Positive progress at last. All the materials for the reconstruction of the crematorium arrived in Bulawayo safely on Friday 5 December. They are being stored in a safe and dry place by United Spring. Mr Mark Adamson, the professional cremator, from Ferns Insulators of Durban has been booked to commence the building in the last week of January, 2009. The industrial shut down has necessitated the delay, the last we hope.

we intend to do another Christmas function for as many Old People as we can reach, just as we did last year at the Coronation Cottages Hall when we were able to give a party to about 200 old folk, there was so much extra that many were able to fill tupper ware boxes come doggy bags and plates with the excess food to see them through for a few days . Im sure you will recollect that many faithful Byo Coys and members of public, as well as some SA friends provided funds, meat, food, drinks and puddings for the Old folk and many of the members from the Rock Christian Church gave up their time on the night to give the Old People a night to remember. The tentative date for the do is Friday the 19th of December, however this may have to be changed at the last minute. If there are any people who wish to assist either financially or physically on the evening , or in the party preparation to make this occasion a success again, please contact any one of the following e mail or tel. nos, with a bit of luck one of them will get through.
