PERFORMING ARTS BULAWAYO

The last PAB event of the year (the 25th!) will be a DVD of La Boheme on Friday 21 December at 6.30 p.m.

Puccini's famous opera is appropriate for this time of year as the first two acts are set on Christmas Eve, and it will be complimented by a special Christmas menu at the Roasted Berry, price approximately $12 000 000 for pre-opera snacks plus dinner. There are still a few places available and payment should be made on the night.

The production, directed by Franco Zeffirelli and conducted by Herbert von Karajan, comes from La Scala with Mirella Freni as Mimi and Gianni Raimondi as Rodolfo. Richard Osborne wrote that the latter "was one of the most underrated tenors of his generation" and went on to say that the performance also featured "a theatrically vivid ensemble of Bohemians and a Mimi of the finest musical pedigree". He considered that Karajan's "reading has a raw energy and heart-rending immediacy". Zeffirelli restaged his production especially for the film and it is very lavish, especially in the Cafe Momus scene.

There will be drinks and snacks from 6.30 (bring your own drinks!) with Acts I & II at 7.00, dinner at 8.00 and Acts III & IV at about 9.10 for a 10 o'clock finish.

ZIM PRESCRIPTIONS IN S.A.

As prescription drugs are extremely hard to come by in Zim, don't think you will automatically be able to fill your script in SA.

At the very big pharmacy I went to the snooty pharmacist refused point blank to fill my script,( maybe our doctors' writing is even worse than those in S.A. Maybe the scrappy piece of paper covered in muddy cats paws annoyed him ?)

Maybe he thought all we had left in Zim were Ngangas !! But as I dragged my aching bones to the coffee shop in despair I then spotted another pharmacy and thought I would try once more. The nicest man, who had great sympathy for this obviously poor starving Zimbabwean, gave me my tablets and his business card !! Vowing that things would change soon in Zim !!

Our house got broken into last night and a few of our electric appliances got stolen so I just wanted people to be aware of any stolen goods on sale.
