Hi Mags,
Just to inform you through your Morning Mirror, the dinner that was put on for the old peoples home this last friday night 8/11/07 went off really well. All 150 + chairs in the hall were occupied and the grans and grandfathers were seated and ready nearly an hour before the supper was due to start.
There were over 30 members of the Rock Christian Church working as waiters and attending to the needs of all the old people, everyone including the waiters, the security guards and anyone who cared to walk in was fed and watered.
A small show and dance was also provided for their entertainment. It was an incredibly humbling evening and Im sure that all who attended felt incredibly blessed to have been able to give a little back to the Senior Citizens.
As always the incredible people of Bulawayo came to the rescue and made it possible with their help or financial support. Special mention and thanks needs to be made in public to the following Companies or people please:-

Raymond Sargant for his incredibly generous donation and attendance to help on the night.

And finally to all the OLD FOLK we want you to know that we love you and support you and do not be too proud to call on your children out there or any one of us if you need help. To all of the many "Children" around the world who have left your parents here in Zimbabwe dont forget them. Even if you cant help support them, keep in contact with them. Many of them are too proud or stubborn to ask you for your help.Time is short, I know but its getting shorter for them. Its your duty as well as a privilege to give something back.
It only takes one phone call to almost any person in Byo, to find out how supportive and quick the wonderful people of Byo are toward assisting Old Age Homes personally or financially.

Cornerstone - follow up

Thanks to various Bulawayo residents for information on this cornerstone on the greenbelt parallel to Park Road, between Seventh Street (4th Ave) and Sixth Street.

The Vintage and Classic Car Club of Matabeleland have planned for a Transport Museum. This is commencing (slowly) on the Centenary Park side of the hedge but is basically currently on hold. Residents in the area were sent details of the scheme and given the customary opportunity to object before Municipal approval was granted.

It was decided to mark the last day of the Millennium by laying the foundation stone, this was attended by about 50 people.
8 year old Camilla Johnstone (perhaps the daughter of Alex Johnstone an English teacher at GC about 6 years ago. Alex is from an old Byo family ) was chosen to lay this stone because she had won an award for motor car design.

Someone mentioned the beautiful tree on the corner or Irvine and Albermarle Road, which 'was blown down in a storm'.

Well, having lived around the corner to this tree, let me state my own opinion.

I thought the tree was a TEAK TREE! It had beautiful flowers, and you could smell them. You know all those lovely teak trees you drive past on the way to the Falls? I'm sure it's the same species.

Also, I'm also sure it wasn't 'blown down'. New owners cut down TWO of those trees on the corner because they were so big, and they wanted more open spaces by the entrance of their yard. They sure did it! I'm certain there was nothing wrong with those trees!
