2) WEEKLY WATER WATCH

Bulawayo's second last dam Inyankuni has now now been de-commissioned.

This leaves Insiza Dam only to service a city of over 2 million people. Insiza is gravity fed and can supply only 40 000 cubic metres of water a day to a city that needs over 100 000 a day in normal times.

Water will now only be delivered to the CBD twice a week and to residential properties once a week.

The work on the Mtshabezi pipeline to Umzingwane has been stopped due to lack of funds and the Chinese contractors have moved to another project in Gweru.

Water tip. I like most people fill the bath with water when the pressure is up. To help in stop some of the sludge that comes through our pipes fasten a piece of very fine material with an elastic band over the outlet on the cold tap it will at least filter out some of the gunge P.E.

More on Snake Bites

I spoke to our local vet, the one who is also knows about snakes, and he said electric shock treatment does not work for snake bites. He said the only time it would appear to work was if the snake had given a 'dry bite' which means it did not inject any poison into the person/animal - not uncommon.

The development of this product took some 18 months and included the services of a French Nose who spent several months in Zimbabwe to develop the unique fragrances that relate to the fragrances of the African Wilderness.

The loofahs used in the soaps, grow wild off the tender clinging vine - the luffa aegyptiaca - in the lowveld and the Zambezi Valley. They are handpicked by villagers who live in these remote areas, and are delivered to us from as far as 500kms by various modes of transport.

The loofahs are then sun dried, peeled, washed, de-seeded and dried again. Hand selection takes place in selecting the correct size loofah to fit the mould. The soap is made using high percentages of natural oils which are poured over each loofah. We wait for the soaps to set and then each is individually removed from the mould and trimmed and polished by hand. The wrapping and packing process takes place by hand. We believe that this is what makes our product so unique - you really have a piece of Africa in your hands. Enjoy our products they are naturally a part of Africa. At present the range consists of: -

I had forgotten how well we were able to tighten our belts when necessary - from the UDI era to the difficult times presently. It seems to me life goes on in Zimbabwe regardless. What a resilient lot you all are - Congratulations! I sometimes feel ashamed for selling up and deserting all and sundry. Keep your chins up, nothing remains the same. Some day (?) things will be all right again.

We are living in another world over here in England - life is much easier in every way BUT it's a very sad, strange and upside-down world. I ask myself why has it all gone wrong?
