2) WEEKLY WATER WATCH

I read with interest the report of our water situation and quote, "the promised RBZ funds are not enough to re-equip all the seventy seven boreholes at the Nyamandlovu Aquifer. We need at least $ 30 billion in addition to the funds that have been promised"

When pumping of the Aquifer first started (late 1990's?) we lived in that area. We were appalled to drive around to witness this in progress and rivers of wasted water coming from these station pumps. We also experienced ground tremors frequently as the underground collapsed due to the vacation of water. Large patches of dead trees was also evident. At a meeting held with this regard it was found that the overseas surveys done were incorrect in that too much water was being pumped at a time, and the local survey was more realistic in it's lower figures. It is understood that once this sponge-like formation dries and collapses it is not recoverable. I have been informed that this pumping ceased sometime back due to all the pumps being stolen. Lets hope our city fathers consider what a great loss it would be if pumping the overrated volumes continues and this natural underground system is allowed to run dry. Lets have a vision and look also to the future.

The New York Times review commented that "the production is rich in high-spirited invention" and that "Horne's talent for comedy has seldom been used more fruitfully". Dinner will be available (cost to be advised) but you're welcome to bring your own supper on this occasion.

Tchaikovsky' s The Nutcracker in a spectacular production from the Kirov Theatre in St.Petersburg - at the Academy, bring your own supper for the interval.

Cancer Patient Dies

Nqobani Ncube a five year old Bulawayo boy who appeared in the Chronicle in August appealing for funds to undergo cancer treatment in South Africa has died. He died at Mpilo Hospital after the cancer spread to his blood and bones. His father Mr Ronald Ncube said despite efforts by well wishers to save his sons life through contributions, Nqobani succumbed to the cancer after his condition deteriorated about 2 weeks ago. He was taken to Mater Dei Hospital where he was admitted until 18th October when the family decided to move him to Mpilo because of mounting bills. The bill at Materdei came up to $450 million and decided to transfer him to Mpilo where it is cheaper. Mr Ncube said his son had gone through alot of suffering since falling ill last December. At the time of his death both his legs were paralysed while his remaining eye was loosing sight. Mr Ncube a Bulawayo City Council policeman still needs assistance from Bulawayo citizens as he has only managed to pay $50 million. OLD FOLK OF BULAWAYO
If you are reading this and have a parent, grand parent or family relative living in an Old Age home in Bulawayo, I do hope that your conscious is clear.
I work in a restaurant in Bulawayo and not a day goes by that a patron does not mention the OLD FOLK especially with Christmas coming up, we and I mean everyone is feeling for them, we know that Christmas time is time for family & feasting, basically pigging out, the saddest is that some OLD FOLK may have nothing and the lucky ones may have a can of beans to celebrate Christmas.
Good example a patron came in last night (Stompie) I asked him if he would attend my dinner dance and donate an item of food for the OLD FOLK, he was so angry I can assure you if he knew where the OLD FOLK'S relatives were he would certainly have a few harsh words to say, worse still he would knock your block off. He donates allot to the needy OLD FOLK and why should he, this is your responsibility.
Allot of family are out the country with all the food available, you probably waste it anyway, or you are fussy, and your kids eat junk food.
Just remember YOU put your family in these Old Age homes and you left them behind to face the end alone, how sad is that.
There are so many caring people in Bulawayo who are working so hard to feed your family, pay their medical bills, sort out accommodation for them.
Tracy visits the Old Folk, they love having visitors its sad that a stranger has to do that for you, but the OLD FOLK know no different its the company the OLD FOLK love even though they may repeat themselves a thousand times. Tracy has a wonderful disposition and loves OLD FOLK she cares and she visits your family
I am holding a dinner dance for Falcon College, at this dinner I have appealed to all attending to bring along a gift wrapped item of food or a hamper of food, these gifts of food will be handed to Margaret Kriel who will distribute it to our "OLD FOLK". The Royal Philatelic Society of Zimbabwe (a non-profit organisation) will hold a Stamp Exhibition on 24th & 25th November 2007 at the Hellenic Cypriot Hall in Famona.

Judging of the competition will be on Saturday 24th from 10am until 2.30pm during which time the hall will not be open to the public. However, the exhibition will be open from 2:30pm onwards on Saturday afternoon and from 9am to 2pm on Sunday.
