"Just an observation. Can anyone honestly say this water cut business is working? I am finding I have to run off half a ration at least trying to get clean water and the toilet is just about clean when we are due for the next cut!! My washing came out of the twin tub with brown streaks! I heard one lady say that as soon as her water comes back she just opens all taps and runs the water until it comes clean!! I tried putting some 'well brewed tea' from the tap in a bowl to see whether the gunge settled overnight. I think it did but had not told the housechap what I was doing so he put the water on the garden!!"

Peter Martens is regarded as South Africa's foremost cellists. He studied cello at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and during his stay there he was also solo cellist of the Austrian Ensemble for Modern Music and principal cello of the Salzburger Musici Chamber Orchestra. At present he is principal cello of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra while maintaining a very active career as soloist and chamber musician. He has recorded much solo and chamber music for the SABC and has made two CDs with the group Cellissimo in Pretoria. Immediately after his Zimbabwe performances he returns to Salzburg for concerts there.

No more firm dates for the next couple of months at this stage but we're intending to have another DVD opera within the next few weeks, Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld and we're still hoping for a Spanish tenor in September.
Libor Novacek's recital is scheduled for Tuesday 16 October. This should be an exciting occasion and Libor has just had some good news: his second CD was of the Italian book of Liszt's Années de Pélèrinage and it has been awarded a "Diplom d'Honneur" by the Hungarian Liszt Society, which is about as good as it gets when it comes to Liszt - it is a very prestigious award indeed and only four or five recordings a year receive it.
And looking much further ahead, we're planning the Sixth Bulawayo Music Festival for next year. Provisionally the dates are Wednesday 14 to Sunday 18 May 2008. so make a note NOW!
Musicamp takes place from Saturday 18 to Saturday 25 August and, for anyone who is interested in attending, full details and application forms are available from the Academy office.
Grateful thanks to all those who have contributed to our appeal for the Audio-Visual Centre in memory of Derek Hudson. We're getting towards our target for the first stage but still need more so please think about contributing to this fund. As well as a fitting memorial to a man who devoted half his life to Bulawayo's music, the end result will benefit everyone who enjoys music for years to come!

SOLUSI PEACE CLUB
We are a group of students pioneering in Peace, Conflict and Development Studies in Zimbabwe at Solusi University. A Seventh Day Adventist University located some 50km outside the country's second largest city, Bulawayo.
As a Club we are seeking to diversify our knowledge base and broaden our perspective by seeking in -depth knowledge about issues affecting Africa in such areas as H.I.V. AIDS Governance and Development. Our hope is to be able to have information to equip us to be able to learn devise and implement comprehensive solutions and mechanisms to issues pertaining to peace, conflict and development in Africa in the various organisations after completion of our studies.
Our biggest challenge as we take our baby steps is technical materials such as books, journals, and primary access to current affairs in the form of satellite television for local regional and international news, discussions and support workshops, public lectures and educational trips as well as to fund for observation of important dates such as :
