The Bulawayo Publicity Association has been informed by S A Airlink that:
Airlink increases capacity from Johannesburg to Bulawayo to double daily Monday - Friday.
The earlier departures from Bulawayo offer convenient connections to the SA domestic and
the Africa network whereas the later departures target the business market with long-haul
late evening departures. The combination of the early and later departures offer the
business traveller with same day flights alternatively, two full days of business.

WHEN SHE READILY NEEDED IT AND SHE IS SO VERY GRATEFUL. SHE HOPES THAT THIS

TV LICENCES
I spent several hours today with an elderly man from G.P. who wanted $150 000 to pay for
his TV licence. he was going to Ascot P.O.
I finally persuaded him not to do this for a few reasons:
1. When we went to see the licensing officer at the Montrose Studios we could obtain no
licences because
a) They do not have any.
b) They have not been informed of the new licence fees and Harare can't tell them either.
They themselves heard of the amounts through reading the Chronicle. I ask you!
c) As far as they are concerned the new fees have not been gazetted.
2. No post offices including Ascot have the proper licensing forms.
3. You cannot be fined for having no licence as there are no licences to be issued.
4. Unless the following act has been changed and I would like to know if it has and by
which act, Act 244/2003 states that no one over 65 years of age needs to pay for a TV
licence.
You may wish to seek advice before you send out the information to make sure it is
correct. I was given the phone numbers and names to contact if I wanted to follow this
through. Dorcas at Montrose studios 471811 / 5 gave me the number of Toro in Harare
04 498789.
If anyone comes around saying they are collecting fees for licences their ID must be
produced and the relevant gazette with the fees shown and an official receipt obtained. In
fact I do not think that inspectors are allowed to collect money and give a licence. They are
only inspectors and can give you a warning to produce your licence in 7 days or face a
fine. Many elderly people are frightened of arrest and a double fine if they cannot produce
a licence. I am sure someone will jump on the band wagon to extort money out of the
unsuspecting and trusting or fearful people who do not know the situation.

I wonder if Morning Mirror could ask if anyone can confirm something about TV/Radio
Licences. I have been told that under Act 244 of 2003 anyone over 65 years of age is
exempt from buying a TV/Radio Licence. I have tried to get it confirmed at ZTV Licensing
Dept., but they say they know nothing and will have to refer to Harare !! If this exemption
is a fact it would be of great benefit to many of us "oldies".

us that there is a couple going around collecting money (using a Baptist Church
letterhead) for a young girl who needs medical attention, and apparently they have

Every February we celebrate Valentines Day by giving flowers, chocolates and cards to
those we love. We do this in honour of Saint Valentine. You may be wondering, "Who is St.
Valentine"?
Legend has it that Valentine was a priest who served during third century Rome. There was
an Emperor at that time by the name of Claudius II. Emperor Claudius II decided that single
men made better soldiers than those that were married. With this thought in mind he
outlawed marriage for young men in hopes of building a stronger military base.
Supposedly, Valentine, decided this decree just wasn't fair and chose to marry young
couples secretly. When Emperor Claudius II found out about Valentine's actions he had him
put to death.
Another legend has it that Valentine was an imprisoned man who fell in love with his
jailor's daughter. Before he was put to death he sent the first 'valentine' himself when he
wrote her a letter and signed it 'Your Valentine', words still used on cards today.
Perhaps we'll never know the true identity and story behind the man named St. Valentine,
but this much is for sure...February has been the month to celebrate love for a long time,
dating back to the Middle Ages. In fact, Valentines ranks second only to Christmas in
number of greeting cards sent.
Another valentine gentleman you may be wondering about is Cupid (Latin cupido,
"desire"). In Roman mythology Cupid is the son of Venus, goddess of love. His counterpart
in Greek mythology is Eros, god of love. Cupid is often said to be a mischievous boy who
goes around wounding both gods and humans with his arrows, causing them to fall in
love.
