INDIAN MYNAS
We've been asked to look out for Indian Mynas. This is what they look like (courtesy of Sasol Birds of Southern Africa).
They have reached Zimbabwe - even worse, they have actually come into Matabeleland where they've been seen on a farm near Turk Mine, in Gwanda and in West Nicholson. It's very possible that they are already in Bulawayo. Indian Mynas spread rapidly. They are an unwanted and we are advised to dispose of any we see if we can. You will realise that this drastic action from an organisation whose aim is to conserve birds, means there is a serious problem. Indian Mynas pose a danger to our indigenous hole-nesting birds, such as starlings and barbets, which they will displace. Geoff Lowe is preparing a report on this species and would appreciate the following information when we see them (and rest assured, it's much more likely to be 'when' rather than 'if'):
· the date, time and place
· the number of birds seen and
· their behaviour.
Let me have any information you glean and I will compile a dossier for onward transmission to Geoff. Hopefully, it will turn out not to be a dossier as such, but just a few sightings. e mail Julia

Fees for non-residents remain the same. Entrance to Victoria Falls Rain Forrest is $5 000. The Natural History Museum entry charge is now $4 000. Air Zimbabwe now flies to Kariba from Harare en route to Vic Falls on Monday and Friday.

Woodland Inn is situated 250 metres east of the Bulawayo-Gwanda road at the 50 km peg, and is set in a grove of Leadwood trees, green lawns and peaceful surroundings.

Lumene falls and Diana's Pools are situated nearby and are the starting points for hiking and mountain bike trails. Many caves and grain bin sites are easily accessible. Female, Spayed, German Shepherd, long hair/short hair cross in beige/tan/black. Although 10 years old still very fit & agile. Not house trained.
Both dogs have been brought up together, so ideally we would like them to go together. Although if we find a good home, the ridgeback can handle it alone. They need to be housed either on farm property or if in town, a property that is walled & gated, as dogs can scale fences.
