WATER WOES
BULAWAYO CITY COUNCIL HAS REDUCED THE LOW DENSITY SUBURBS' WATER USAGE TO 450 LT PER DAY, HIGH DENSITY USEAGE REDUCED TO 400 LT PER DAY.
UMZINGWANE AND LOWER NCEMA HAVE BEEN DE-COMMISSIONED AS THEIR WATER LEVELS ARE TOO LOW.
13 OF THE 39 BOREHOLES WHICH WERE COMMISSIONED DURING THE 1993 DROUGHT HAVE BEEN COMMISSIONED AND ARE IN USE OVER THE WEEKENDS. THE OTHER BOREHOLES ARE NOT FUNCTIONING.. TO DATE FARMERS HAVE BEEN USING THE BOREHOLES BUT THEIR LEASES WERE CANCELLED ON 12 JANUARY 2006. THE CITY EXPECTS TO HAVE TWENTY BOREHOLES WORKING BY THE END OF THE WEEK.
RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN URGED TO STICK TO THEIR ALLOCATIONS.
Performing Arts Bulawayo brings the Reps production of 'At The Drop Of A Hat' to Bulawayo on Saturday 3 February. It's fifty years since Michael Flanders and Donald Swann launched their show and PAB thought that Bulawayo should also celebrate the anniversary so the Reps company will be joined by Brian Meikle and the Bulawayo Philharmonic Chorus in a performance directed by Linda Hyde with the musical direction shared by Mark Hyde & Margot Morgan.
This will be a great treat for fans of F & S but also for anyone who enjoys a good laugh and a good tune! The Harare performances were very well received and Susan Hains wrote in The Standard: "'At the Drop of a Hat' was a delight from start to finish. There were some fine voices and performances.... Lots to chuckle over.... Any chance of a longer run in 2007?"
So don't miss this! There will be one performance only at the Robert Sibson Hall at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday 3 February. Booking is at Meikles from Monday 22 January, tickets $3 000.
Performing Arts Bulawayo presents Michael Brownlee Walker at the Robert Sibson Hall on Tuesday 13 February. Michael hardly needs any introduction since Bulawayo is his home town and everyone will remember his outstanding performances in last June's festival. He's presenting a programme of well-loved piano music including:

Whitestone School celebrates its 65/25th Anniversary in 2007
Whitestone School was first opened as a primary school for boys in 1942.It closed in 1976 but was reopened in 1982, this time as a co-ed primary school. Throughout its history, the positive and vibrant spirit of the school has lived on, maybe more so now than ever and because of this it has been decided that we need to celebrate the 65/25 Anniversary in style. Besides holding Anniversary celebration events, we would very much like to hear from as many Old Whitestonians as possible. We want to find out about interesting events that may have occurred during your time at the school, we want to compile lists of your names and contact details, dates you were at the school and where and what you are doing now.
