EDITH DULY NURSING HOME
To Our Generous Benefactors.
On behalf of the Edith Duly Nursing Home I would like
to take this opportunity to thank all those generous
people and organisations who have helped keep the
Home operating and viable during the course of the
past 12 months.
Without your overwhelming generosity the Home would
have struggled to remain open.
In particular we would like to thank ZANE, The
Pensioners Fund, AGED-AID UK, Friends of Messina and
Louis Trichardt, Hannes Botha, and Hands On Zimbabwe.
Numerous other donors, too many to mention, have also
helped in so many important ways to keep the
institution running.
A special mention however, must be made of the
generous advertisers in the Morning Mirror.
Over the past 12 months donations for advertising in
the Mirror have raised many millions of dollars. ( A
detailed record of all donations is available for
inspection at the home).
Through the ongoing generosity of Morning Mirror
readers, we were able to purchase provisions, provide
for the upkeep of essential equipment and make
available various amenities so essential for the
running of this home which provides shelter and
hospitalisation for approximately 80 patients each
month, many of whom have no independent means of
support.
Our grateful thanks also go to Eley Education for
assisting with collections and to the team at Datvest
for receipting, listing and accounting for all
donations no matter how large or small.

Whitestone School celebrates its 65/25th Anniversary
in 2007
Whitestone School was first opened as a primary school
for boys in
1942. It closed in 1976 but was reopened in 1982, this
time as a co-
ed primary school.
Throughout its history, the positive and vibrant
spirit of the
school
has lived on, maybe more so now than ever and because
of this it
has
been decided that we need to celebrate the 65/25
Anniversary in
style.
Besides holding Anniversary celebration events, we
would very much
like to hear from as many Old Whitestonians as
possible. We want to
find out about interesting events that may have
occurred during
your
time at the school, we want to compile lists of your
names and
contact details, dates you were at the school and
where and what
you
are doing now.
If you are an Old Whitestonian, please write to us at
whitesto@mweb.co.zw and tell us about yourself.
Someone on the
Anniversary committee will reply to your email and
give you details
on Anniversary celebration events, current activities
at the school
and we will try to answer any other queries you may
have in
relation
to the school and it's pupils. Do you know of any Old
Whitestonians
world wide? Please forward this letter to them.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.

PERFORMING ARTS BULAWAYO
P.O.BOX 2360 - BULAWAYO
A NIGHT AT THE OPERA
Tickets for a Night at the Opera will be available
from the Academy from mid-morning tomorrow, Friday 5
January and from the Bulawayo Club from Monday 8
January.
However, I'm afraid that we grievously under-estimated
Club prices for the second half of January. They have
doubled since November so the cost of the evening
including a three-course dinner will be $18 000.00 and
not the lower figure we rather optimistically
mentioned in the previous newsletter.
Just to remind you, the opera in question is Mozart's
The Marriage of Figaro in a performance featuring
Hermann Prey as Figaro, Mirella Freni as Susanna and
Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Kiri te Kanawa as the
Count and Countess with the Vienna Philharmonic
Orchestra conducted by Karl Böhm. Someone commented
that it must be quite an old recording given those
names! Indeed it is, just over thirty years to be
precise as it was recorded in 1976, but I've seen it
twice and can guarantee that both sound and picture
quality are of a high standard and the performance
superb.
The opera will be shown at the Bulawayo Club on Friday
19 January 2007 and the approximate timetable is as
follows:
· Bar opens at 5.15 p.m.
· Acts 1 & 2 : 6.00 p.m.
· Dinner : 7.45 p.m.
· Acts 3 & 4 : 9.00 p.m.
· Finish: 10.30 p.m.
As I've said, the evening will cost $18 000.00
including a three-course dinner ($9 000.00 to Red
Carpet subscribers) and tickets (in the form of a
programme with synopsis and an interview with the
director Jean-Pierre Ponnelle) will be available from
both the Academy and the Club. Bookings must be made
by 1.00 p.m. the day before, Thursday 18 January, but
preferably rather earlier. Club members can charge
the evening to their accounts in the usual manner but
must make a booking and should collect their
tickets/programmes from either the Club or the
Academy.
Best wishes as always,
Michael Bulivant

Chairman Committee and memebrs. Well 2006 is over with
all 38 anglers slogging the water once a month hoping

to say that all fish not released were donated to

not a lot of fish died but we will continue to help
where we can. I would like to urge all anglers if they
have an abundance of fish please either bring them to
Matabeleland Tyres or take them to Edith Duly and help
those less fortunate than ourselves and those people
do appreciate it. Herewith final results for 2006 and
we hope to keep you updated on a monthly basis on

Hi Guys,
Just in case you didn't know, our wonderful new South
African Cricket star, Paul Harris, is one of
us!!!!!!!!
He is the son of Dee (nee Lattey) and Mark Harris.
Mark is the Pastor of the Valley Christian Church
right here in Fish Hoek, and took our Rememberance
Day service. Mark himself had his National colours
for Athletics.
Mark is ex Prince Edward and I am not sure which
school Dee and her sister Val went to, but as far as
I can remember they are from Bulawayo. I do know that
they were fantastic Basketball players.
Paul is a really "good kid", he deserves all the
success he is enjoying, and all us Fish Hoek Zimbos
are absolutely bursting with pride.

For those of you who missed the cricket,These two kids
played the most incredible cricket today. I was
bursting with pride, and then when the International
Commentator remarked on how well mannered they were,
and what fantastic Sportsmen they are, I thought
"Well what did you expect mate?"
In fact, Dale played so well I am convinced he
originates from the Mutare/Odzi Steyns.

go into the new year determined to build on past
success and provide all our guests with even higher
standards of service. We look forward to being of
service to you and to seeing you at our Inns many
times during the coming 12 months.
One thing I would like to say is that those of you
intending to join us for holiday periods should book

Mica the Parrot FOUND
Thank you so much for forwarding and for keeping a
look out.
I am very happy to tell you that we have found Mica.
He flew quite a way from our house and was found at
the top of our road.
He was a bit soaked because of the rain and very
grumpy, but we managed to get him out the tree and
back home.
This is his second great escape since we arrived here
and Mica has now had his wing feathers cut.
Mica was enjoying becoming quite the Bulawayo Houdini
pro, hopefully this will be the last excursion!!
Thank you all again!!
