THIS IS ANOTHER APPEAL!!! This one comes from the Sea Cadets of T S (Training Ship) Matabele, who are fairly well known in Bulawayo. We are now established in our new, own-built headquarters in Centenary Park, adjacent to Bulawayo Theatre. In order to complete our 'home' for the youngsters, we are in need of certain items. Knowing how many people are moving away from town, or at least seeking smaller accommodation, we are taking a chance, and asking if you would like to dispose of any of the items below, which we could make good use of?
Any carpeting; chairs, small table(s), electric kettle, electric fan, old shelving or display case, camp beds, any crockery, small outboard motor for our boats.

To All Exhibitors and Standholders who would be interested in taking up a stall at Falcon College Tour De Falcon, on Sunday July 2nd, 2006 at 8.00 am onwards, please let me know if you would like to apply for a stall. We will be charging a fee, and you will be able to use our tables and chairs, (you may also supply your own if you wish) - and we are expecting an enormous crowd.
There will be many riders participating in the Tour De Falcon Bike Ride (Organisers - Flying Eagles) and there will be "Off-Road Riders", "Social Riders" and "Serious Riders". We are even expecting teams from South Africa!
The fee per stand, will be set closer to the event, so I am just asking for interested parties to send me their names and contact details, and also to give you notice, so that you can build up stock of your product for this very exciting Fair - we will be donating part of our proceeds to a needy cause. WILDLIFE AND ENVIRONMENT ZIMBABWE.
(Private Voluntary Organisation number PV0204/68) (Formerly WILDLIFE SOCIETY OF ZIMBABWE)
Due to the critical situation that developed in Hwange National Park towards the end of 2005 and before the onset of the rains, there was much public concern regarding the state of the park and its water supplies. In order to try and rectify any further crises, a joint venture has been set up with the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, Friends of Hwange Trust and WEZ. Our first project with the co-operation of Hwange Park staff will be to completely revamp ten selected pans and their water source.
Friends of Hwange Trust, in conjunction with Parks and Wildlife Management, have employed Mario Gomes to supervise the first stages of this project. The venture will be operating out of The Hide and we very much appreciate the active part they will be playing in initiating our plans. A suitable vehicle is on loan to this joint venture, generously sponsored by Mitsubishi Fuso and fitted with a winch and bull bars by Naledi Motors, both of Gaberone, Botswana. Safari Centre, Cape Town, has provided a second winch and Caltex, South Africa, has promised sponsorship of some fuel. Getaway Magazine and Flame Lily Holidays are some of the prime movers in Friends of Hwange and have done much to solicit support in South Africa. Many people, societies and companies have expressed concern and offered assistance, for which we are most grateful - and so are the animals! Hwange Conservation Society UK, SAVE Foundation Australia, Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, Wilderness Safaris, Matupula Safaris, The Hide Safari Camp and several others have already played a significant role in Hwange National Park.
While we wish to express grateful thanks to all concerned, as with so many societies in Zimbabwe and with our prevailing economic climate, WEZ is appealing to anyone who can, in any way, assist with this ongoing exercise. We should like to appeal to all WEZ members to ensure that their membership subscriptions are paid up to date and would obviously welcome any new members to the society. (Any Matabeleland subscriptions should be paid at the WEZ shop in the TV Sales and Hire premises, Fife Street.)

SGOFOTI--Support Group Of The Families Of Terminally Ill

A third branch of SGOFOTI has started in Emakandeni in the Western suburbs. The other branches are in Mpopoma and Pelindaba. Ours is a volunteer,non governmental,support group offering psychological and emotional support to those who have lost loved ones. Our focus is on the AFFECTED(and we are all affected whether it is our relative,our friend,our neighbour. our employee and perhaps even our employer) in the devastating Aids pandemic.

We also run an occupational therapy group within which the women who are our clients, knit and sew using wool and material that has been donated. Many of these women are grannies with extra dependants and no breadwinner. They try to earn some money by selling what they have made.

The third aspect of SGOFOTI focuses on the orphans who are among the most affected by this terrible scourge. One of our counsellors,Patricia Tshabalala,took the initiative to start an orphan offshoot of SGOFOTI called VULINDLELA guardians where vulnerable children are entertained,taught skils and made to feel wanted.

SOLAR COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS
Due to the wonderful Rainy Season we are experiencing, conditions are not very good for Solar Cooking. We have, therefore, decided to postpone our monthly Demonstrations for the public until the weather is more predictable.

We hope to be able to hold a Demonstration on the last Saturday in March - the 25th - at 9.00 am at the Methodist Church grounds, Main Street/ 11th Avenue.

CREMATORIUM

I feel I need to put matters straight regarding your article about the Byo Crematorium. My father Roger has in the past regularly done work there for the City Council and in fact successfully tendered for the refractory brickwork on a second cremator over ten years ago. Now, you can speak to any businessman in town that my Dad has done work for and they will all tell you that his work is of the highest quality standard. Not only in Bulawayo, as he has travelled all over the country to meet the demand for his work, whether bakers' ovens, kilns, boilers, furnaces or even pizza ovens!
The City Council has in the past few years been using less qualified people to service the cremators, and of course now they find themselves in the position they're in today. The City Fathers have contacted my Dad with a view to getting him to submit a tender for the refurbishment of the cremator so hopefully the situation will be regularised before very long.

Please can I register to help get the Crematorium up and running again. Two years ago I lost my eldest son in Mutare and we had to find enough firewood, to deliver to the Crematorium, to enable them to carry out the Cremation.
Never mind the trauma of loosing a loved one, but to then have to source firewood in order for authorities to conduct a cremation ceremony is bizarre to say the least! I sympathise with families having to face such an ordeal.

I left Bulawayo with my family in the 70's. Remember with such happiness our big garden, kopje's (my children have never seen a proper kopje), running free in Beacon Hill, Hillside, Montrose ... kids cant run free in most places anywhere in the world any more, but we are lucky to live in a rural town, but my children can never experience the freedom I had as a child in Zim. Most of all I remember and often wonder what happened to our super gardener (Rubin) and our Nanny (Anna), their lives must have changed so much.

We get so little news in UK re the situation there, but with so many of us all around the world and the internet, Skype phoning etc, we do get the occasional news firsthand. All of you are in our prayers, that this wonderful country that has been so destroyed is once again rebuilt and that God's love will overcome this disaster that has been created by one person. Well done and thank you for running SOAP, I am meeting up with some ex-Bulawayo folk next week-end and am going to see if they are interested in doing something from UK to help, if we could get enough folk over here to assist, however small, it could mean the difference of a nice jar of coffee in the hampers too!
