If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that, he or she is a company engineer, or telling that they're checking your mobile line, and you have to press # 90 or #09 or any other number. End this call immediately without pressing any numbers. There is a fraud company using a device that once you press #90 or #09 they can access your "SIM" card and make calls at your expense. Forward this message to as many friends as you can, to stop it.

All mobile users pay attention if you receive a phone call and your mobile phone displays (XALAN) on the screen don't answer the call, END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY, if you answer the call, your phone will be infected by a virus..

This virus will erase all IMEI and IMSI information from both your phone and your SIM card, which will make your phone unable to connect with the telephone network. You will have to buy a new phone. This information has been confirmed by both Motorola and Nokia.

Please can I take a bit of your time to tell you about Dengue Fever, which has attacked my two children, and it could becoming a problem in Bulawayo, I think it is already starting as I have heard of a few other people who have it. My two children 16 and 24 both ended up in hospital recently, on drips and virtually comatose, I have not seen them that sick ever, and my husband and I were emotionally sick for days. They did not know what the matter was with my daughter and thought it was Meningitis, gave her a lumbar punch, fortunately it was clear. When my son was admitted a day later, they sent him to a specialist ,The specialist straight away identified the disease as Dengue Fever. They say this is much worse than Malaria. There is no prevention, or no cure, just lots of liquids very strong pain killers and anti inflamatories to bring the swelling of the brain down, almost like encephalitis. It takes ten days to get over the headaches and fevers, and up to 6 weeks to recover fully.
SYMPTOMS:
The incubation period is average 4 to 6 days with a range of 3 to 14 days. An infected person cannot spread the infection to other persons, but can be a source of dengue virus for mosquitoes for about 6 days. Severe headache Pain behind the eyes Fevers Vomiting Rash on trunk up to neck and ears (my daughter never had a rash, yet she is still sicker than my son)

This disease is a virus, which is carried by a certain mosquito, this mosquito bites in the day, early morning and early evening, or in the shade. Apparently the belt of Dengue Fever runs right through Zimbabwe into Mozambique. There is a lot of information on the internet, and I am sure doctors are getting to learn a bit more about it. The reason we are getting all these Malaria and Dengue mosquitos in Bulawayo is not because we have never had them, it is obviously because there is no more spraying by council going on. We have had Agricura in to spray the whole house, inside and outside, the out buildings , ponds, garden and surrounding areas. We also burn coils at 5p.m. onwards and apply insect repellent and we have always slept under nets and have over head fans going all night. Please can you warn people about this, it is the most terrible thing, I have had to see my children go through, such terrible pain and suffering, and apparently the older you are the harder it is to recover.

APPEAL FOR 'THE WAY' CLINIC AT THE CHURCH OF THE ASCENSION ,KENT RD ,HILLSIDE
This Clinic has been operating for 3 years to serve the needs of the poor and destitute in the area. It is run by a team of volunteers-two doctors,two nursing sisters with help from other nurses when they are off duty ,and several helpers.
The number of patients has risen considerably over the last year ,exceeds 100 now and then so consequently more help is needed not least because one of the sisters and one doctor is going on leave shortly .
The Clinic operates on Wednesdays from 10am to 1.00 or 2.00pm depending on the demand in the Parish Room which is entered from the church car-park . Our Appeal is for doctors and nurses/retired nurses who can give a few hours of their time on Wednesday mornings. We would also welcome gifts of medicines,bandages,pill boxes or anything else that might be useful in this service. Domestic Workers Union

A small team from the Union are again visiting homes in Hillside and Burnside - they are very militant and will threaten you if they are able to get onto your property and see your domestic workers. Some guidelines: -
1. They are NOT permitted onto your property without your permission. If you have security gates - simply keep them out it saves a lot of hassle. If you do not and are confronted at your front door - simply say to them that according to the Ministry of Labour, they have no right to be there and ask them to leave - do not try to argue with them.
2. They are required by law to see your staff out of working hours and only by appointment. Insist that this procedure is followed.
3. If you are harassed call the Ministry of Labour in Bulawayo and a very pleasant woman will answer your queries. They will back you up if you are confronted with threats by the Union.
The standard modus operandi of these guys is to get your staff to lay a complaint about wages or working conditions against you - they then work out what "you owe" the employee and they insist on payment there and then and in cash. If they are successful they then take the employee out of the premises and charge him membership dues for as many years as he has been working because invariably they are not members of the Union. Often the employee walks away with very little. It is basically a scam. They carry identity documents but these you can ignore - they have no official status.

I've survived all the symptoms, my body's deployed, and I've kept twenty-six 'doctors' fully employed!

MORE ON NEW NUMBERPLATES

Central Vehicle Registry have advised that an announcement is to be made on the subject of the issue of the new numberplates on the 30th November 2005. They still maintain that the deadline for changeover is the end of 2008 and it is predicted that the imminent announcement will give details of the phased implementation of the new plates according to the alphabetical check letter on existing plates - ie, the "A's to change first, followed by the'B's and so on.

An advertisement in the Sunday News earlier in November advised that Post Offices in the main centres had now been appointed to issue new number plates in addition to the municipal authorities. However enquiries indicate this service does not appear to have commenced as yet.

Meanwhile, the Bulawayo Municipality has introduced a ticket system for persons wishing to change their number plates, the ticket indicating the date and time on which the process may be undertaken. BEITBRIDGE TOLL FEES
The toll fee for Beitbridge has risen to Z$460 000,00 each way and appears to be increasing every week. However, enquiries with ZIMRA in Bulawayo, Harare and Beitbridge have indicated that the maximum amount that travellers may take out of the country in Zimbabwe currency is still Z$300 000,00 per person
- which makes paying for the bridge toll on the return journey a little difficult. We understand that Zimbabwe travellers cheques (which would obviate the problem) are not readily available.
Motorists should certainly be prepared for the toll fee to have increased while they are away if they are out of the country for more than a week.

Garden Exhibition - 12 November, 2005

Thank you to the wonderful people of Bulawayo for their magnificent support!

Just under $20 million dollars was raised by the participating artists for the AIDS orphans home 'Isaiah's Umuzi Wothando'. Cheeky Chooks (braaied chicken) and Sarah Schoeman (samoosas and pies) donated 10% of their profits to the same charity. Shelly Lasker and her 'tea ladies' raised $9 million for Bartley Block and Margaret Kriel's postal auction raised just under $10 million for Edith Duly.
Special thanks to the many people who contributed to the success of the day with their ideas and support in a variety of different ways: Addelis Sibutha, Voti Thebe and Nothando Phiri and staff at the National Gallery in Bulawayo, Lorimer Scott, Amanda van der Merwe, Shelly Lasker and her tea ladies, Debbie and Peter Edmeades, Lesley Clift, Margaret Kriel, C.B.C.,Carmel School, Iversens and Acol Chemicals.
A big thank you to Cassim's Band for creating the amazing 'vibe' , to the dancers who entertained us a throughout the afternoon and to Rashid Jogee for his live exhibition!
And the biggest thanks of all to the participating artists for the variety and excellent quality of their work, their generous donation to 'Isaiah's Umuzi Wothando' and for all their hard work setting up the exhibition.
We would like to encourage you to see more at the National Gallery in Bulawayo - there's lots to see right now including a solo exhibition by Owen Maseko and the VAAB Annual exhibition. In addition the Gallery Shop has lots of work on sale. What better gift for Christmas for the friends and family in South Africa or overseas than a painting by one of our talented local artists?

WEEKLY TRIPS BULAWAYO TO HARARE RETURN SOUGHT URGENTLY

At the end of October, I had an operation which saw the removal of the growth masses. However, there is a tumour now growing on a main vein (the aorta) which is inoperable. For this I require radiotherapy every Wednesday over a period of five weeks. Unfortunately, it can only be done in Harare. The machine at Mpilo has not been working for years, and further requires a technician to assist the radiologist. We have no such technicians anymore. Here is where I require your help. Could you please ask any of your readers if they travel to Harare on either a Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning coming back on Wednesday evening and who would be prepared to give me a lift? I have checked with Blue Arrow (it's now too expensive to fly) and they advise that their coaches only leave in the morning. There are no afternoon trips. If I use them, I would have to travel up Tuesday morning, have treatment Wednesday and travel back Thursday morning. Their cost is $3 million return. And unfortunately, the medical aid is not prepared to assist with transport costs, this despite the fact that the only place I can have treatment is in Harare.
