SUNDAY 7TH AUGUST 2005 is a different day of prayer and fasting, UNTIL 4 PM, for a great revival to sweep across Zimbabwe.
If a Spiritual revival takes place, the Spirit of God will lead the nation in the direction that God wants. Let us all in one accord, pray that the satanic powers and strongholds be destroyed in Zimbabwe, and the church of God prevail. Zimbabwe was once a praying nation, what has become of it? Even one prayer in your church services programme on SUNDAY 7Th AUGUST 2005 will be heard by The Almighty. His ear is not heavy to hear, but we must repent first, before, we make this prayer & fasting. There is no need for a gathering. Every Christian where ever they are, every church and congregation were ever they gather, all Zimbabwean Christians within Zimbabwe and outside Zimbabwe, we have a call of duty. Please pass the word by email, telephone or word of mouth, to every Zimbabwean Christian and church that you know of. This word should be received by every Zimbabwean Christian in the next few weeks before SUNDAY 7TH AUGUST 2005.

INTERNATIONAL AWARD TO ZIMBABWEAN NURSE
Honour deserved needs to be recognised. One international award that was given to a Zimbabwean earlier this year, that has not been widely reported in Zimbabwe, is the Human Rights and Nursing Award of the International Centre for Nursing Ethics, which was presented to Fidelis Mudimu, a registered nurse and psychiatric nurse, in Taiwan on 19 May. A press release and the citation of the award follows.

Fidelis Mudimu is a registered nurse, psychiatric nurse and midwife. It seems that these days his midwifery skills are used in a very different direction: to provide medical and psychological rehabilitation for victims of organised violence and torture (OVT). He is the programme manager of the Amani Trust, a local Zimbabwean human rights organisation. Fidelis runs the clinical programme of the Amani Trust, and he is also responsible for local, regional and international liaison for the organisation. He does short-term counselling for survivors of torture, in the process assessing them for long-term medical and psychological rehabilitation under various specialists throughout the country. Sometimes he personally has to evacuate people to places of safety when they are in extreme danger. Fidelis has also helped to established a network of 'peace monitors' throughout Zimbabwe, whose role is to monitor violence, and first- and second-generation human rights abuses, such as access to food and health care. The Amani Trust has been under constant threat by the Government and has negative publicity on almost a daily basis in the state controlled press. Sometimes the office of the Trust had to operate off grounds; it has been raided and searched. New legislation is threatening to ban all democracy and governance activities, yet Fidelis and the Amani Trust continue to do their work.
Fidelis has represented the Amani Trust and the Zimbabwe Human Rights Forum, a coalition of twelve of the main human rights non-governmental organisations in Zimbabwe, at various international meetings, such as the Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders, the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, and the Netherlands Institute for Southern Africa, and various others. At these meetings he has articulated the current Zimbabwean human rights situation and the existence of organised violence and torture.

I got hold of Bulawayo City Council to establish how the water bills work and to find out what the penalties are if we go over the water restriction limits:
On our accounts the usage is indicated in Kilo-litres, but they have not put in the decimal/comma, so if your account says 286, it is actually 28.6 kilo-litres, or 28 600 litres for a 30 day period.
In low density residential areas:
We are allowed 18,000 litres, or 18 kilo-litres per month (600litres/day).
Re Water restrictions: Sorry - correction to earlier email - Under restrictions, we are allowed 18,000litres, or 18 (not 1.8) kilo-litres a month.......Vanessa
The fines are huge: $68,494.86 per Kilolitre over the limit. After THREE consecutive months over the limit, the fine is doubled.
I think Bulawayo home owners need to be aware how the restrictions could affect them!
Kind regards
Vanessa Bristow

The Bulawayo Projects Centre
The Bulawayo Projects Centre is an offshoot of the Bulawayo Shelter, which was initiated by a number of churches in the late 1980's to cater for destitute people in need of food and accommodation. The Projects Centre initially was a department within the Shelter simply called 'Projects', which objective was to encourage the destitute to engage in income generating activities. In 1993 the Bulawayo Projects Centre was established as a separate entity. The services and facilities of the Centre have gradually expanded and today include:
- A workshop complex comprising 4 workshops equipped with water, electricity, various tool and equipment.
- Five roofed enclosures providing extra working space.
- A classroom with 2 adjacent offices.
- A showroom for the display of products, with a small kiosk.
Members of the Projects Centre can use these facilities for a small fee to set up a business, or simply try out an income generating activity. Contrary to what is often assumed, the Projects Centre does not run any business. It is a deliberate policy that the members are responsible for their own projects, as they are expected to learn to run their own business. They are no employed by the Projects Centre. The Centre offers various training courses, such as 'one-up business training', an introduction course for aspiring entrepreneurs ('beginners course'), a 21 day 'Youth-in-business' course, bookkeeping, and various short skills training courses. The activities of the Centre are supervised by an Executive Committee, comprising representatives of a number of churches and staff. The Centre's capital expenditure is entirely funded by donations from the member churches and international Non Governmental Organisations, while the members contribute a significant amount towards the recurrent expenditure.

"HIJACKING MADE EASY - Repentant Car Hijacker Explains How it is Done"
A repentant car hijacker (28) stole and hijacked cars for more than 14 years before deciding to go straight. Now he is a struggling fashion designer who presents motivational talks at schools in Orange Farm, south of Joburg, discouraging youngsters from doing crime. He spoke to Denis Droppa about the murky world of vehicle crime.

Q. 1: Are most cars hijacked on order by syndicates?
Answer: Yes, I would get a phone call to deliver a certain type of car by a certain deadline, and then we'd go out and search for one. If they needed it quickly, I would hijack. If I had a bit more time I'd steal a parked car, as it was safer.

Q. 2: Which types of vehicles are the most popular amongst hijackers?
Answer: We would get orders to steal just about anything. Double-cab bakkies, any make, were in very high demand. Also, "G-strings" (BMW 3-series), Polo's, Mercedes and Toyotas. I'd get paid a lot more for a double-cab, around R16 000, but only about R500 to R6 000 for a car. If it was an expensive car like the "Anaconda" (BMW 7-series) I could get about 15 grand, though.

Q. 3: Which cars have the lowest hijack risk?
Answer: There's no such thing. There's a demand for all sorts of cars, old and new. If the vehicle isn't sold then it's stripped for spares. The only thing there isn't really an interest in is expensive exotics. I once stole a Ferrari from a garage just for fun, drove it around for a while and then left it back at the garage.

Q. 4: Do most of the cars that aren't stripped end up beyond our borders?
Answer: No, a lot stay in the country. They are given new identities, re-registered and sold here ..

Q. 5: How effective are modern anti-theft and tracking systems?
Answer: When I was stealing cars three years ago, most of them were a joke. I could break into almost any car and drive it away within minutes. Some cars were very advanced and a lot of work to steal though, like Volvos. With tracking systems, it was usually very easy to find where the device was hidden. While one guy drove the car, his accomplices would strip the interior looking for the tracker's hiding place. Then sometimes we'd place the tracking unit into a taxi and trick the police and the helicopters into following the taxi. Nowadays the tracking systems are getting a lot better though, with quicker response times, and towards the end I nearly got caught a couple of times.

Q. 6: How did you learn how to override these high-tech systems?
Answer: Experience, and learning from other car thieves. We all shared information. I! f I was having difficulty with a particular car, sometimes I'd dress up nicely and go to a dealer posing as a customer. I'd ask the salesman how good the anti-theft system was on that car and he would give me all the details.

Q. 7: What was your hijacking modus operandi?
Answer: We would get people in their driveways, on the way to work or on their way home. Rainy weather is the best time to steal cars. When it's raining it makes it more difficult for the tracking helicopters to find you.

Q. 8: In a hijacking did you normally go for soft targets like women?
Answer: No, I could take on anyone. I was a professional. Some people wore guns but never got a chance to use them as I was too fast. I'd stick my gun right in their faces and they wouldn't give me any trouble. That's why I never shot or hurt anyone; I was against that. A friend of mine sometimes shot people he hijacked and he used to wake up with nightmares.

Q. 9: Which area s did you target?
Answer: Any white suburb, it didn't matter. I never stole in the townships because people were poor there. I also didn't rob black people.

Q 10: Is that because you don't like whites?
Answer: No, it's because darkies are dangerous. If you rob them, they go to a sangoma who would "take care" of you.

Q. 11: How much money did you make?
Answer: A lot, but I wasted it all. It was easy come, easy go. Some money would go to police and judges and prison officials in bribes. I got caught a few times but was never convicted. Bribing a police officer to lose a docket cost about R2 000 to R5 000. The only time I spent in jail was awaiting trial. Then I'd bribe the prison guard to help me escape.

Q. 12: Is this the norm, or were you lucky?
Answer: I knew how to find the loopholes and beat the system. Some of my friends were caught and convicted to 8 or 12 years or more.

Q. 13: What made you stop crime?
Answer: I saw I had nothing to show for all those years. I felt guilty for what I'd done and wanted to achieve something in my life. That's why I do community work persuading other people not to do crime, and I'm also a fashion designer. I'm struggling with money now. My sewing machine broke and I can't afford to fix it, but I won't go back to crime. That life is a stupid life.

Q. 14: What is your advice to motorists to avoid hijacking?
Answer: Look out for people following you. Some hijackers spot a car they want and follow the person home. Be aware. If you're suspicious, make a few false turns and see if that car is still behind you. If it is, drive to a police station.
PASS ON, TO AWAKEN SOMEONE!!!

Subject: FW: Lead in Lipsticks
Lipsticks
Even lipstick isn't safe anymore...what's next? Brands don't mean everything. Recently a brand called Red Earth decreased their prices from $67 to $9.90. It contained lead. Lead is a chemical which causes cancer. The higher the lead content, the greater the chance of causing cancer. After doing a test on lipsticks, it was found that the Y.S.L. lipstick contained the most amount of lead. Watch out for those lipsticks which are supposed to stay longer. If your lipstick stays longer, it is because of the higher content of lead.
Here is the test you can do yourself:
1. Put some lipstick on your hand.
2. Use a Gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.
3. If the lipstick color changes to black then you know the lipstick contains lead.

PRAYER FOR OUR NATION
Oh God, who has made of one blood, all nations of men,
Mercifully receive the prayers that we offer,
For our anxious and troubled country.
Send your light into our darkness, and guide our Nation
Into the ways of peace.

Take away all prejudice and hatred and fear,
Strengthen in us, day by day, the will to understand.
And to those, who by their council, lead the
Peoples of the Earth - grant a right judgement,
So that through them and us, Your Will be done.
Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
Amen

Employment

My name is Rosemary Alice Wepener aged, 56 (widow). I am currently living in Chivhu but will be staying in Bulawayo for the next 3-4 weeks before moving to Bulawayo permanently. STAMPS
We are avid stamp collectors - regrettably all our stamp collections from when we were children "disappeared". Now living in the UK we are keen to gain back those memories and ask that anybody who has stamps they would be prepared to send to us we would happily pay for as well as the postage. We are particularly looking for Southern Rhodesia, Nyasaland, Northern Rhodesia and Rhodesia pre independence. I hasten to add we want to recapture the memories not necessarily the face value.
In return we would happily pay postage. We particularly collect Southern Rhodesian envelopes with stamps on them. Of particular interest - where the postal address is not in one of the main cities - ie. Bulawayo, Salisbury or Gwelo (as they were know in that period). So any old envelopes which were addressed during the lead up to UDI including their stamps would be gratefully accepted. This e-mail address can be used. Please also add me to the group print run. Best wishes and regards to all
