++++++++
DENTISTS I HAVE KNOWN
HE HAD ME IN A VICE LIKE GRIP.
MY MOUTH WAS STUFFED WITH A MISCELLANY OF APPLIANCES...SUCKERS,
BLOWERS, DRILLING MACHINES, METAL OBJECT D'ART, MIRRORS AND THE
LIKE....AND THEN HE SAID TO ME ' MY GOODNESS YOU HAVE A LOT OF TEETH
FOR SOMEONE OF YOUR AGE "
NOW WHAT WOULD YOUR REPLY HAVE BEEN ? RAGE ? INDIGNATION ? WOULD YOU
HAVE BEEN FLATTERED ? WOULD YOU HAVE TAKEN THAT AS A COMPLIMENT ?
THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD POSSIBLY DO...ANY NOISES OF PROTEST I COULD
HAVE MADE WERE CONVERTED INTO GURGLES AND SQUISHELLS.
THERE WAS SO MUCH IRONMONGERY IN MY MOUTH , THERE WAS AN HYPODERMIC
NEEDLE QUIVERING EXCITEDLY TWO CENTIMETRES FROM MY GUM, AND SO I
DECIDED RATHER EXPEDIENTLY THAT I WOULD TAKE IT AS A COMPLIMENT AFTER
ALL !!!
AND AS I GAZED RATHER FORCIBLY AT THE PICTURES ON THE CEILING, AND I
REALISED THAT THE PAIN I WAS EXPECTING WAS NOT FORTHCOMING, I
UNCLENCHED MY FISTS, AND BEGAN TO THINK ABOUT THE DENTISTS I HAD KNOWN.
ONE TENDS TO GET RATHER INTIMATE WITH ONE'S DENTIST DOES ONE NOT.
I MEAN, THERE YOU ARE, WITHIN KISSABLE DISTANCE, EYEBALL ON EYEBALL, HE
CAN SEE THE VERITABLE PORES ON YOUR NOSE, THE HAIRS ON YOUR TOP LIP.
HE CAN TELL WHAT YOU HAD FOR BREAKFAST BY EXAMINING YOUR TONGUE THAT IS
HANGING IN A RATHER FLACCID FASHION, WAITING FOR THAT DENTAL NURSE TO
VACCUM AWAY THE DEBRIS.....
YOU ARE VULNERABLE TO SAY THE VERY LEAST, THAT TITANIUM DRILL IS INCHES
AWAY HELD IN HIS VERY STEADY HAND. THE HYPODERMIC NESTLES INCHES AWAY
ON THAT STAINLESS STEEL TRAY, SO YOU ARE NOT IN A POSITION TO ARGUE
ABOUT ANYTHING, LEAST OF ALL YOUR AGE !!
IN FACT, YOU ARE SO VULNERABLE, SO SCARED, EVEN MORE THAN READY TO
ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE HUNG BY A LENGTH OF DENTAL FLOSS !!
ITS BETTER TO LET YOUR MIND WANDER. THINK ABOUT ANYTHING EXCEPT "DEATH
BY DENTIST"
THERE WAS DEAR OLD MR COOPER MADE HIS FIRST FORAY INTO MY MOUTH. HE
WORKED FROM THE WARNBOROUGH MANSIONS OR WAS IT ANOTHER HIGH RISE
SOMEWHERE IN BULAWAYO (THERE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN TOO MANY HIGH RISE
BUILDINGS WAY BACK THEN THOUGH )!!
THEN THERE WAS THAT CHARMING AMERICAN FROM THE SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS
IN LIVINGSTONE ROAD, DR RUSSELL, I RATHER WANTED MY DAUGHTER TO MARRY
HIS SON, BUT SOMEHOW THAT NEVER HAPPENED. THE SDAS MUST HAVE CHOSEN
THEIR DENTISTS FOR THEIR LOOKS, COS DR FORDE WAS ALSO PRETTY COOL.
AFTER THAT WE STARTED TO GO TO THE BEAUTIFUL CATHY. HE WHO MUST BE
OBEYED, I SWEAR, USED TO CHIP HIS TEETH DELIBERATELY, JUST SO HE COULD
ENSURE AN HALF HOUR OR SO STARING INTO CATHY'S BEAUTIFUL EYES OVER THE
TOP OF HER PURE WHITE AND PROFESSIONAL MASK.
WHEN CATHY CLOSED HER PRACTISE, WE AT A BIT OF A LOSS, WE TRIED DR
MOHAMMED BUT HE LEFT TOO, AND SO ON AND SO FORTH.
BUT I DIGRESS, DRAGGING MY FOCUS BACK TO THE SOUND OF THAT SCREECHING
DRILL, AT LONG LAST ALL THE IRON MONGERY WAS REMOVED FROM MY MOUTH, AT
LAST I COULD SPEAK, DEFEND MYSELF, MY AGE, MY PLETHORA OF DENTURES, BUT
HE MUST HAVE BEEN RIGHT ABOUT MY AGE, COS I HAD FORGOTTEN WHAT IT WAS I
WAS SUPPOSED TO BE INDIGNANT ABOUT AT ANY RATE.....

HELP !!
I have a child with school refusal . This has gone on since he was 6
years of age(grade 2). It was first put down to the divorce and I was
blamed for not controlling the child. We went to doctors specialist ,
psychologist, psychiatrists, educational psychiatrist. Had EGG & EEG
done. Have tried all the medication which all had their own side
effects, or my child was a zombie. He was then diagnosed with petty mal
epilepsy his left side of the brain was underdeveloped to the right -
which is the side for problem solving therefore when my child was
tired, embarrassed or thought he would fail he would have a fit....
ie.. limb up a tree for hours, try and jump from a moving car, running
into traffic, trying to hang himself, trying to cut his wrists,
disappearing for hours on end, locking himself in rooms, running
through glass etc.
It has been 6 years now with school being very erratic. The child has
since got into high school and I have been told he has psedoseizures
(behaviour problems) not through not having carried on the discipline
understanding etc. The doctors either have washed their hands of us or
we are told they can no longer help. Im so distraught.
Is there any one out there who has a similar case or some idea of how
I can help my child to help himself and allow me and my family to have
some peace. Whats so worrying is the one statement from a DR was" If we
dont sort him out soon the child will become an unlawful citizen"
Please someone Help. You can contact me on dubbies@telone.co.zw
God bless everyone in Zimbabwe

1. Do not let any person onto your property who may claim to
collect household items, checking borehole pumps etc. Have your
domestics know if you have organised the like.
2. Do not let people who state they are police, CID or CIO onto your
property without obtaining their ID's and phoning the respective
station to get more information as to why they want to see you. It is
your right to ask for ID's and if they do not produce it, you can ask
them politely to leave until you see ID's and the reasoning behind them
wanting to come into your property. DO NOT take things at face value
anymore.
3. Know the police uniforms, what they look like etc. Too many people
are unaware as to the uniform set up and open their homes to men
claiming they are police, yet wearing the old uniforms.
4. When being confronted by men stating they belong to the above -
always be polite, NOT aggressive, as this can cause more problems for
you in the end. You must not antagonise the situation.
5. Make sure your perimeters are secure and then venture into your
house alarms and burglar bars. You do not want the men to be inside
your home, so by making the perimeters more secure, makes it harder for
them to come inside, and by the time they are in your property, you
should be able to control the situation from your home.
If you know of anyone who has been hijacked and not contacted our
office, please ask them to do so. WE have a support group that meets
regularly every Third Tuesday of the month, at Toc H Hall, 18th Avenue
/ Matopos Road at 1:30 pm. For May it is on the 18th and all are
welcome who has been hijacked. I am there to help you.
Again, I appeal for anyone who can help in assisting the Trust with
donations or help, to contact me, Tracey Burns on 011-701 323 or

Subject: 23 May to 31 May :
''CELLPHONE BOYCOT WEEK''
This message is the interest of the General public who use cellphones
both
for business and private. The cellphone tariffs in Zimbabwe are very
high up
to the point that mobile operators have had to tighten the conditions
of use
such that they can keep on milking their clients.
The following dates have been selected to be cellphone boycott days.
From 23 May 2004 up to 31 May 2004 14:00.
The cellphone boycott week is aimed at forcing mobile operators to
reduce
their tariffs. You are expected to participate by taking the following
actions.
1) Forward this email to everyone in Zimbabwe on your address book.
2) Use only the land line to phone and receive phone calls.
3) Switch off your cellphone for the whole week or as long as it is
practical for you to do so.( Only during the week in question).
4) Phone your mobile operator if you can and complain about their
astronomical tariffs.
If you do not liberate yourself , no one will.

I am hoping you will be able to give me some info on a friend of mine.
First a bit of background, I left Zim in 2000 and am now living in the
UK. I left behind my best friend Mandy Wright (Sauter was her married
name). I know she has passed away, (about 2 yeards ago I think) but I
would really like to know how. It may seem strange, but I need to know
the details surrounding her death in order to be able to let her go.
I would be really grateful if you could get back to me with any info
you might be able to dig up.
I wait to hear from you.
Kind regards
Toni
Could you also put in a Condolence
* Mary Ann McIntosh - passed away in hospital on New Years Eve, in the

Dorothy Goodman (nee Ainscough)- My beloved mother passed away on
Wednesday after a long illness through which she taught me about
tenacity, dignity and integrity as I observed constant new depths in
her character. She always believed in angels and now is one of God's
brighter and most beautiful. Her passing was the most profound
experiences of my life as I watched her being collected and the
_expression of happiness, love and contentment on her face. She promised
to come for all her sons when it is our time and her parting gift to me
is that I no longer fear death. My prayer and message to you all is
that you should not either. I have now seen it for myself. She was the
most wonderful friend and I will miss her very much. Thanks to you all
for your love and friendship. It is really all we have in life. Malcom
Ainscough.

KNOTT; NAN, ( WINNIFRED NANCY )

I am ex Byo and have been reading your newsletter/newspaper that you
put out via another ex BYO resident. We are now both living in
Canada. The reason for this e-mail is to ask if you can fwd your news
to this e-mail address for me, and also to ask if you could add a
Condolence message in your next issue. We recently learned that
Dorothy Ainscough formely of The Dorothy Ainscough School of Dancing
passed away. My mother, Maureen Wells and her Aunt June Riley [nee
Bain] were her first students many years ago. My mother then taught
for her, and I learnt with her. I used to dance with her son, Malcolm,
when we were very small. I am trying to get in contact with him to
pass on our condolences, and would like to know if anyone there has an
address for him or his brothers, Merrick and Garry. You may give out
my e-mail address if anyone has this information. If this is possible,
please would you add the following :
Maureen, Mike and Caroline Wells [now living in Canada] were deeply
saddened by the news of the passing of Dorothy Ainscough. Our
condolences to Garry, Malcolm, Merrick and families. This is truely
and end of an era.
Caroline Goodenough [nee Wells]
