8) Bulawayo News Would it be alright if you put a little piece in your newsletter to spread the word that the book 'Innocent Victims' that Cathy Buckle wrote as you know, on the thousands of animals that we rescued during the farm invasions, is now out in paper back . The publishers Merlin Unwin based here in the UK, recently decided to bring it out in paper back (it has already been available in hard back and Kindle), but apparently due to public demand, and also because of the very good reviews the book has had on Amazon. They, Cathy and I, all feel that as many people as possible should know exactly what happened to all those thousands of animals, that were left behind on the farms during Mugabe's illegal land invasions. It is not that the farmer's abandoned their animals as you know, but because his war vets, would not allow the farmers to take their animals with them. As you know the animals that we rescued ranged from domestic pets, to livestock and even wildlife which if left on the farms, would have all been slaughtered. I was told at the time, when the book was first published in 2009, that many Zimbabweans especially farmers, felt too 'raw' to read the book, but now as the years have passed, they feel they can at last read about those dark days in Zimbabwe's history. I recently checked with the Head of the RSPCA (UK) International Dept, and he confirmed that there has never been another animal rescue carried out on such a huge scale by any other animal welfare group, involving so many animals over many. many months.
