1) Editorial

I am GOD. Today I will be handling all of your problems. Please remember that I do NOT need your help. If life happens to deliver a situation to you that you cannot handle, do not attempt to resolve it. Kindly put it in the SFGTD (something for GOD to do) box. All situations will be resolved, but in MY time, not yours.

Once the matter is placed into the box, do not hold onto it by worrying about it. Instead, focus on all the wonderful things that are present in your life now. Think of the glorious winter days, the fact that we do not spend hours travelling to and from work every day (Sorry Harare !) Think of the friends you have, the leisure time you are privileged to have.

Should you turn on your tap today and yet again there is no water, think of the women in the rural areas who walk many miles daily with a single bucket of water on their heads, which must last the family the entire day.

Should you turn on a light switch today, and there is no electricity, think of the countless folk who have never even seen a light bulb, and whose activities must end at dusk.

If you find yourself stuck in a fuel queue, don't despair. There are people in this world for whom driving is an unreachable privilege.

Should you pass by a butchery seeking meat, think of the countless people in the world who might not even have a meal today, let along eat a little meat.

Should you have to queue for a loaf of bread today, do your "keep fit" exercises quietly in the line and think of the man whose closest store is thirty km away.

Should you have a bad day at work think of the man who has been out of work for years.

Should you walk to the chemist to find that your medicine is not available or is now right out of your price range, think of the person who is dying as we speak, and has never even been able to get to a doctor let alone a pharmacy.

Should you grieve the passing of another weekend; Think of the woman in dire straits, working twelve hours a day, seven days a week to feed her children.

Should your car break down, leaving you miles away from assistance; Think of the paraplegic who would love the opportunity to take that walk.

Should you notice a new grey hair in the mirror; Think of the cancer patient in chemo who wishes she had hair to examine.

Should you find yourself at a loss and pondering what is life all about, asking, "What is my purpose " Be thankful. There are those who didn't live long enough to get the opportunity.

Should you find yourself the victim of other people's bitterness, greed, ignorance and vicious words due to smallness and self-insecurities; Remember, things could be worse. You could be one of them!

2) Notices and Events

'The Cassandra Crossing 'is a 1976 thriller directed by George Pan Cosmatos and starring Sophia Loren, Richard Harris, Ava Gardner, Martin Sheen, Burt Lancaster, Lee Strasberg and O. J. Simpson which has perhaps acquired a new relevance! Passengers on a European train have been exposed to a deadly disease. The train is sealed and placed under armed guard... so what happens next
Great film that has stood the test of time. A lot can be learnt from this film... Modern governments would do well to see how best to react to a level 4 pathogen! (Amazon)

With its killer virus plot, it has suddenly acquired a horribly relevancy. [Telegraph]
A thrilling disaster film featuring an all-star cast.'The Cassandra Crossing' is one of my all time favourite films,I don't like to consider this a disaster film but more of a action and suspense film (Google Play)
Admission: US$1.00 [free to Film members]

Recorded at the Royal Opera House in 2019, this mixed programme highlights the versatility of the Royal Ballet. Petipa's 'Raymonda Act III' is Russian classical ballet summarised in one act, full of sparkle and precise technique, while Ashton's 'Enigma Variations' is quintessentially British in every way - from its score by Elgar and period designs by Julia Trevelyan Oman, to Ashton's signature style, the essence of British ballet. 'Concerto', MacMillan's fusion of classical technique with a contemporary mind, completes a programme that shows the breadth of the Company's heritage.
Brilliant combination of works show-casing some of the Royal Ballet's most talented dancers. The emotional 'Enigma', the more abstract 'Concerto' featuring the dancers performing elegant and stylised movements to a stunning score, brilliantly lit with simple costumes and, finally, the non stop czardas etc of showstopping 'Raymonda'. Awesome from first to last. [Amazon]
The Royal Ballet's new triple bill is sunlit and sparkling, with a touch of autumnal warmth. Bringing together Kenneth MacMillan's bouncy 'Concerto', Frederick Ashton's 'Enigma Variations' and the tutued celebration of 'Raymonda Act III', it makes a rich evening of dance. It's a nod to the company's heritage, with two of its home choreographers and a 19th-century classic, while displaying the company's current depth of talent: all three ballets are packed with solo roles. [Independent]
The first mixed bill of the Covent Garden dance season brings together three wonderful and diverse ballets that showcase the full breadth of the Royal Ballet. [The Times]
Admission: US$1.00 [free to Red Carpet members]

Directed by Ridley Scott. With Russell Crowe, Abbie Cornish, Albert Finney and Marion Cotillard, 'A Good Year' begins when Max Skinner, a cutthroat London investment broker who has always done ungentlemanly things to get ahead, inherits his uncle's chateau and vineyard in Provence, where he spent much of his childhood. When he gets suspended from his job under suspicion of fraud, he settles in to life at the chateau, remembering the time he spent there as a child. Then a determined young Californian girl arrives claiming to be the illegitimate daughter of the deceased uncle and rightful owner of the vineyard...
Really an astoundingly beautiful movie from start to finish. The dialogue and acting was superb. The soundtrack was mesmerizing with the scenery and air of the southern France countryside. [Amazon]
Gorgeous photography and strong acting keep the formula from becoming stale. For those who don't mind pictures that fall into predictable rhythms, 'A Good Year' represents a pleasant diversion. [Reel Views]
Absolutely brilliant. Russell Crowe is incredible. The whole story is interesting, funny, romantic, and entertaining. I loved it. [Metacrtic]
My breath was taken away as I was transported to another place entirely. It was so warmly sentimental I had tears in my eyes many times during the movie,, but in a great way. [IMDb]
Admission: US$1.00 [free to Film members]

To save the billions belonging to the young and attractive widow Hanna Glawari for his country Pontevedro, Baron Zeta initiates a very special matchmaking: he commands the charming womanizer Count Danilo Danilowitsch to carry out his patriotic duty in marrying the widow. What the baron cannot have known is that Danilo and Hanna already had a relationship in the past..
Helmut Lohner really excels in presenting this amusing love story onstage. The gorgeous set (mainly designed in red and gold), the elegant costumes(with an accomplished mix of traditional costumes and Parisian evening attire, which perfectly reflects the mix in Lehar's composition), and the presentation of the characters (with a shrewd eye-twinkling) add up to a formidable whole. {Arthaus-musik.com]
The performances are very impressive. Dagmar Schellenberger sings with compelling tones and acts superbly. Piotr Beczalasings with his usual honeyed and lyrical tone, and is charming and dashing.Rodney Gilfry has a strong voice and commands the stage well as Danilo. But the star of the show for me was Ute Gfrerer, she sings beautifully, is a vibrant presence and even manages some delightful dancing in the Can Can in Act 3. All in all, a treasure. 10/10. {IMDb]
This recording of 'The Merry Widow' to my mind has it all and must therefore lead the field and by a considerable amount. [Amazon]
From the outset the spectacular ballroom scene of the first Act bubbles with aristocratic life. Good stage business, fast pace and elegant groupings give a charming ambience in which this frothy folly takes place. [MusicWeb International]
Admission: US$1.00 [free to Red Carpet members]

Jeanne Louth

We are sad to advise the death of Jeanne Wallis Louth.

Fy high where there are no shadows and no pain

Sympathy to Leah Louth, Charlie, Brian and all Jeanne's family.

Corinna Scott
Anne Wawn and Antony Birkin are sad to announce the passing of our precious sister, Corinna Scott, on the 25th August 2020.
Corinna passed away peacefully after a long illness, to be forever with the Lord. We will meet you in the morning, dear Corinna, where we will rejoice in the Saviour's presence forever.
Your ever loving sister and brother, till we meet again.

I have been wanting to visit Zimbabwe to tend the graves of relatives, and I have been wondering whether it would be better to buy a second hand bakkie and stay in camp sites - thus saving money on hotels - or use hotels and trains - thus saving money on car hire or purchase Are the trains to Vic Falls and Harare reliable If you have time to comment, any suggestions would be very welcome.
