I am not a litigious person but what would you do if your husband refused to wax your chin

When SheeHoo was here she was always obliging in this respect, she even left her Mandy's Hot wax for me to use....however have you ever tried to wax your own chin

Trust me it takes and enormous amount of guts, grit and valour. Sadly I was shortchanged in this department and have a lot more of the cowardly, craven and cringing qualities than I would like.

Yes I know women are stronger than men, after all we have childbirth to contend with, but have you ever seen a video of a mere male having his legs waxed
Even those incredible athletes in the Tour De France, who ride 2000 miles uphill for twenty one days, are timorous when it comes to having their legs waxed!! I have never understood why cyclists have their legs waxed have you Is it because it makes them lighter and more aerodynamic Or is it because if they apply a band aid to their booboos, when they fall off, its not so painful when its removed

All TIC I promise, I have the utmost respect for these astounding men!!

Anyhow back to the wax...its bad enough when a beautician rips hot wax off your chin, but when you have to rip it off yourself it takes sheer spunk and mettle granted to only a few. Childbirth fades into insignificance!!

The beauticians in my area will happily wax all parts of one's body, except the chin and top lip!! Understandably as one would need to remove ones all encompassing mask !! And so to the microwave I go, Mandy's Hot Wax container in one hand and my personal body jelly quivering in the other!!

Gathering my vestiges of courage, after three minutes of hot wax combustion, I find the mirror in the dining room, dip the wooden spatula in the wax and immediately regret not putting my hair in a pony tail as wax drips from my blond fronds!!

HeeHoo chortles with glee as he finds me garnering the remnants of my backbone to rip the hot wax off my face!!

And all is history...back to the tweezers it is!!

2) Notices and Events

Teaching resumed at the Academy on Monday 14 September and there will be the usual eleven-week term ending on Friday 27 November. The Academy will remain open thereafter for make-up lessons etc. Full details from the office which is open from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. - or Tel: 60684 / 67195.
Vusi Ndebele had joined the Academy as Administrator, initially in a part-time capacity, working afternoons from 2.00 p.m. He will also be available to teach guitar and piano.
DVDs will continue on Thursdays starting at 5.00 p.m. and also Fridays from 25 September, as below. Depending on support, afternoon showings may also begin in October.

The Note, the Academy coffee shop, is open and is available for take-aways and deliveries as well as light meals before evening DVDs..

Another series resumes! The Jedi Order is on the brink of collapse and Anakin Skywalker no longer believes in the wisdom of his master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. As The Force calls him to decide Padme's fate, Anakin will desperately explore every possibility to save his wife from imminent death in childbirth.
All the "Star Wars" movies will continue to entertain us for many years to come. They were grand fun, and this last one's a corker. [Chicago Tribune]
"Star Wars: Episode III" fixed everything Episode II did. The story is much better and especially darker. It's just great and I think it's the best "Star Wars" Episode ever. [Metacritic]
Admission: US$1.00 [free to Film members]

Sir John Barbirolli died fifty years ago on 30 July 1970. He has, of course, close associations with Bulawayo having spent a month here for the Rhodes Centenary Festival - and in the course of his stay he laid the foundation stone of the Academy on 30 June 1953.
Although a prolific recording artist, little of his work survives on film bur here is a complete concert with the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 3 February 3 1959. It finds the conductor in exemplary form, leading performances of Brahms' Symphony No. 2, Walton's Partita for Orchestra, Delius's 'The Walk to the Paradise Garden' (from 'A Village Romeo and Juliet'), and Barbirolli's own arrangement of selections from the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, entitled 'An Elizabethan Suite'.
Vintage Barbirolli. It's good to find a video of him at work with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. It can't be pretended that this is in first class sound and the photography is black and white. Nevertheless the music making shines through. This DVD was a great "find" among other treasures from the recording archives of those television companies that regularly televised concerts. [Amazon]
Admission: US$1.00 [free to Red Carpet members]

The setting is Sheffield England, once the "City of Steel", home of a massive steel industry and jobs aplenty. Today with the industry in decline and the steelworks closed down there is widespread unemployment and despair. Six unemployed steel workers, inspired by the Chippendale's dancers, form a male striptease act. The women cheer them on to go for "the full monty" - total nudity.
Bright and sassy, 'The Full Monty' is a treat.' [Variety]
A British comedy with a minimum of pretension and lots of wit, and bright humour, one of the best comedies ever! A classic! Truly delightful! [Metacitic]
'The Full Monty' is a gem of human comedy aimed not at the gut but at the sense of hope we all carry. I recommend it for anyone who needs a lift.' [IMDb]
Admission: US$1.00 [free to Film members]

Recorded at the Royal Opera House, in this production Placido Domingo made his debut in the role of Nabucco. With 50 years of stage experience, flourishing in a second career as a baritone, Domingo takes the role of the Babylonian king with undiminished energy and charisma. The production was directed by Daniele Abbado, who took the opera's theme of the enslavement of the Jewish people as his cue to give the opera a 20th-century setting. The chorus and orchestra, expertly led by Nicola Luisotti, an experienced master of Verdi's music, also won high praise from the critics.
From the moment Domingo appears this production feels pulsatingly alive. As the majestic Nebuchadnezzar, Domingo fills the space with ease, and his baritone timbre has much of the old tenor burnish. [The Independent]
It is the towering figure of Placido Domingo whose arrival crowned the Royal Opera's new 'Nabucco' with a welcome aura of celebrity. Domingo exudes grandeur and authority, taking command of the role. [Financial Times].
Elsewhere, too, the musical side of this performance is very strong, and is crowned by a cracking Abigaille from Liudmyla Monastyrska, managing singing of hair-raising dexterity and power in her big Act 2 scene, but floating some gorgeous pianissimi in her death scene. She is a mighty talent, definitely someone to watch. [MusicWeb International]
