19) Seeking Friends I am Irene Fox nee Schalscha. I was born in Bulawayo on 23/12/40, went to Coghlan and Eveline High School and taught at Thomas Rudland School before marrying and moving to Harare. A second cousin of mine Helen Sheldon who lives in London is searching for information about relatives of hers who emigrated from Germany I believe to the then Rhodesia. She mentions someone by the name of Irene Nordlinger, daughter of John Nordlinger (born 1883) and his wife Kathleen. I quote " Irene apparently settled in Rhodesia where she had 4 children". That's all Helen knows - not even the lady's married name so it's quite a tall order but you never know, there might be someone who remembers. She'd be pleased with any information - names, where they lived and when and perhaps what they did. Another request of Helen's might be easier ... She'd like to know about Harold Cohn and his wife Gillian (nee Baumeister}. Gillian was born in Bulawayo on 4/2/40 so she'd be about 80 now. They had two children also born in Bulawayo, Grant 10/4/62 and Alan 30/7/64. I'm afraid I did not know Gillian but I think she may have gone to Baines Junior School because a friend of mine vaguely remembers the name. Any information about the whole Cohn family would be most welcome. I knew who Harold was because his parents were friends of my parents but I don't think I ever met him. He was quite a lot older than me. Harold worked for the Telephone Company - was it called the P.T.C.way back then I was able to tell Helen a little about Harold's parents: Dr.Werner Cohn and his wife Marie Elizabeth nee Joost. Dr. Cohn was an examiner for Cambridge German Oral and tested me in 1956! His wife played in the Bulawayo Orchestra in the second violins as did my father. They lived in Kumalo on 14 Langdon Road.
