THE PARADOXES
The paradox of our time in history is that we have
taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider
freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more,
but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have
bigger houses and smaller families, more
conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees
but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment,
more experts, yet
more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too
recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get
too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read
too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our
values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate
too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life.
We've added years to life not life to years. We've
been all the way to the moon and back, but have
trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor.
We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've
done larger things, but not better things.
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.
We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We
write more, but learn less. We plan more, but
accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to
wait. We build more computers to hold more
information, to produce more copies than ever, but
we communicate less and less.
Tomorrow, on your way to wherever you are going,
stop and take in the GREEN.....

LIZZIES JAMS
I would like to thank Angie and Richard, Lynn, Steve and his wife
,Grant and Kath and Willie and Nikki who came to my help with my
request for fruit and veg.Their kindness was overwhelming and I
certainly appreciated it most sincerely.
I now have a further request and that is for jars and sauce bottles any
size except purity ,they are just too small. Zimglass who make the jars
informed me that their furnace will not be in operation till mid July,
meaning that I will have to stop my jams, marmalades, sauces etc.
Also I am still looking for unwanted fruit and veg. It is coming up to
Guava and Marula time both of which make delicious jellies. I am able
to prepare the fruit and deep freeze same in the hope of getting jars.
I am most willing to pick and collect, be it fruit veg or jars.

I would like to find out some information regarding the Birchenough
Nursing Home in Gwelo. I would like to contact them directly and
wondered if they have an email address. I was born there in 1962 and
your site was the only reference I could find. I'm not sure if the
home is still open as I no longer have any contacts in Zimbabwe. My
family moved to the UK when I was three.

MINI NEWSPAPER
You will be happy to know three of us here (Southern Sapphire
Co-coordinators) have started a mini newspaper(Life & Times) by email
with items of interest for all the African migrants this side. There is
so much we do not know here and need to know in laws, where to go,
contacting scattered friends etc We put in adverts for 5.00A$ which is
channelled back to Zim. So far have a few wanting regular ads and will
be sending out our first edition first week of Feb. Hope this will be
helpful to many as yours is to those back there.

death of Di Gillman--ex-Bulawayo. Di was the librarian at Milton for
quite a few years.
She died on the 20th of December. I went to the funeral where i saw
quite a few
ex-Byo and Milton people. Her sons Rob and David are still in CT and
daughter
Cathy is in Canada. Please could you put a small notice int the Mirror
for her.

Dee of Anthony, Jackie, Paul, Stephen, Lauren , Andy and Michael, and

and Ryan, passed away very peacefully in Johannesburg on Tuesday 27th
January. No words can express how much we are going to miss this very
