5) Roses And Raspberries The committee of Queen Mary house would like to say a big Thank-you to Zak and Amina Hawa for allowing us to use their facility (FAZAK) to host our Christmas Market in aid of Byo Help network. Thanks must also go to all our stall holders and the wonderful Bulawayo public who always come and support us. Another Thank-you to Mac for the music and to the Sandra Jones Choir for entertaining us with carols. 7) Bulawayo News Bulawayo Publicity Association The last two months have been very frustrating and stressful for the staff as there have been endless telephone and electricity problems, resulting in days without the use of phones or no power to use the computers. Technicians from Telone and City Council have delayed in responding to calls to rectify the problems which, when sorted out, have often reappeared. The Association has now purchased a cell phone to contact members and to be able to deal with tourist enquiries. The mobile number is 078 4 096094. Greenaeon has approached the City Council to conduct a landscaping project staring along the Hillside Road. The request to titivate road islands has been granted and in this regard, the Director met with the Mayor to suggest that the road islands in Leopold Takawira Avenue close to Milton High School by the traffic lights, would be important islands to as it is one of the main entrance roads into Bulawayo from South Africa. At the moment the islands are an eyesore and often used by cars as a place to park. Not a very good first impression of Bulawayo. The Association has also the Mayor if Council could liaise with the Provincial Roads Engineer to have the white division line on that section of the road repainted as motorists travelling into and out of the city tend to encroach on other lane especially when there is no Zesa at night. The Association has also pointed out the need to erect signs and rumbles on Samuel Parirenyatwa Street alerting motorists about the zebra crossings which are used by junior school children and the elderly crossing that road. The crossings are not easily visible to motorists driving along that road and a result poses a danger to pedestrians. Residents please note that complaints concerning water problems during and after hours and on weekends and public holidays should be reported through the Council CALL CENTER on 08004700 for Telone subscribers and 08084700 for Econet subscribers. There is always a standby team to attend to interruptions in water service delivery after hours. Please keep a note of the reference number given to you. The Bradfield Shopping Center is being revitalized with the addition of new shops such as a chemist, Peter Watson Locksmith; a branch of Fawcett Security; Mica Hardware extending to include electrical goods, and others, apart from the longtime Greenvale supermarket, Book & Bean coffee shop and Headlines Hairdressing Salon TRAVEL/TOURISM The Farm House Lodge and Camp Site on the Kezi Road, has recently been taken over by Barney O'Hara and his wife and they are very busy refurnishing, repainting and generally upgrading the property. Barney himself used to work for National Parks mainly flying helicopters to check on the game, poachers, etc. The Farmhouse offers many amenities such as horse riding, game walks with a variety of game to see, cave paintings and the use of a swimming pool. It is also going to be the base for the specially trained dogs which are to be brought over from America for the purpose of providing support of National Parks, Conveyances etc in the apprehension of poachers. These dogs are military trained for this type of operation and, as you can imagine, very expensive. They will have their own dog trainer. We believe that there are already two dogs on site. Some of Zimbabwe's new voices and talent will be participating in this Festival.
