9) Harare And Gweru News Dear Member It is very disturbing to see how many cars do not give way to pedestrians at zebra crossings. A particularly dangerous one is at the top of Samuel Parirenyatwa Street near the Trade Fair grounds. It would seem that motorist have no consideration for the lives of pedestrians at these crossings. We have noted though, that some driving schools ensure that their pupils stop at the crossings whether there are pedestrians on them or not. Stray Dogs (not what you think) is a firm that manufactures furniture to suit all needs, particularly hotels, guest and safari lodges. They are situated at the corner of Fife and Deptford Streets. Tel 60745. This is a very community-minded firm that helps many charities in various ways. Blue Turkey which is in Four Winds just past Cresta Churchill Hotel, is a new leisure venue with all the amenities required for picnicking, braais, even wedding receptions. It is similar to Redwood on the Plumtree Road. La Piccolo Roma, the Italian owned restaurant at the Ascot Shopping Centre, specializes in pizzas and pastas dishes and is open daily except Mondays. The Fun day at Ascot Shopping Centre at the beginning of September, was very successful despite the weather, with plenty of activities for the children and special offers for the parents. This event is to be repeated in November, but in the meantime TM Pick N' Pay Supermarket have a major promotion on Saturday 3 October when the draw will be made for the car. The Ascot Public Library for your information has video and E books as well as a very good selection of children's' books and internet facilities. Hornung Park Lodge, owner-run by Freddie Ruf (Swiss) and his wife Rita ((Austrian), of course, speak German. Their Lodge comprises 5 single units complete with swimming pool. Tel: 241763 Rainbow Airlines, Zimbabwe's newest airline, plans to launch flights between Harare and Johannesburg, with Cape Town, Victoria Falls and Kariba as future destinations. However, the South African Department of Transport still require their Foreign Operators permit. The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management have reinstated unguided public walking in Mana Pools, but all walking activities will now require permits that cost $10 for locals and $15 for international visitors per day. People walking without permits will be fined $100.
