5) Roses And Raspberries Roses to Beatrice Mtetwa Women of the Year has recognised Beatrice Mtetwa for risking her life for justice and press freedom in the country The Women of the Year Human Rights Award has been won by the Zimbabwean human rights lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa, who received it at a special awards lunch in London this week. The award recognises her 'extraordinary contribution to the defence of journalists and freedom of the press', noting that 'she has been imprisoned [in Zimbabwe] for her work multiple times, yet continues to represent defendants she feels have been victimised by the government.' Raspberries to the Bulawayo community for not supporting the Ascot Public Library. This essential resource is in danger of closing down due to arrears in their rental (they've been given 90 days). A project to involve communities around the world in the celebration of Scottish heritage and culture. Scots have migrated all over the world and have often had a profound impact on the areas where they settled. This project will see 25 such communities documenting their Scottish connections on a series of embroidered panels. Their combined stories will pay homage to the incredible determination and courage of Scots over the centuries. Led by the team behind the magnificent Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry, the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry is to be created by volunteers in communities across the globe. Progress has been slow but positive, so much so that a start has been made. The building area has been cleared and tenders have gone out. As a precaution we have asked for two tenders, one for the two storey building and one for a single storey building with a view to adding the second storey at a later stage. 9) Harare And Gweru News MUSICA 2014 Concept and Programme The Embassy of Italy, in partnership with National Arts Council of Zimbabwe presents MUSICA 2014. The event will run from 18th to 25th October 2014.Concerts will be held at the Italian Club, Embassy of Italy, Zimbabwe German Society, Book Cafe, Misty's, Megga 2, 7 Arts Theatre and Sam Levy's Village. The Embassy of Italy has a long history of engagement with the cultural and musical scene of Zimbabwe. In this framework, for the last six years it has organized a festival, which has normally taken place in October. The festival is designed to give Italian international and Zimbabwean artists an opportunity to work and perform together. Many fruitful forms of association have ensued, greatly boosting opportunities for musical growth and commercial development. MUSICA 2014 promises to be a truly delightful series of concerts, workshops and seminars. Artists from Italy, Germany and Zimbabwe will take part in what promises to be the most vibrant and exciting edition of the Festival so far. The genres featured will span from Jazz to Pop, from Rock to World Music. MUSICA 2014 is a non-profit festival, with a distinct educational connotation: international artists will interact with school students and young musicians from Zimbabwe, in collaboration with the College of Music and Misty's. Bulawayo Reminisced The braais and the fun - our precious days in the sun! Electric Circus and Marjorie's - tjoling with our buddies Fritz after midnight - steak rolls and fights The guys drag- racing - in the dead of the night! Drive-ins, the movies, that our folks couldn't deck Of Course we were all trying to shape - what the heck! The Palace hotel with Mike Stewart and his guys And the hangovers we would try from our parents to hide New Year at the Fountain - then onto Rhodes Grave Here we would watch the sunset, and honour the brave! But they were idiots - my brother was for sure! To try drive up on worldsview-his truck could not endure! But he was young - was going to do this whatever!!! And one of the things that I will remember for ever!!' The 'surf ' in the fountain - the Centenary Park lights The times at Gondies and the ladies nights.
