David was born in England and lived his working life in Bulawayo where he worked for the Railways and in the BSAP and ZRP reserves. David had a fall and broke his femur. They operated on him and successfully put in pins but he never regained his strength, although he always remained happy. He leaves behind his 6 children, Linda, Michael, Susan, Jennifer, Julie and Sally, their spouses, 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. David was the best father we could ever have asked for and we will all miss him terribly. Love you Dad / Grandpa, you will be in our hearts forever. 7) Bulawayo News To protect children from trafficking, abduction and kidnapping, the SA Immigration Act now requires minors (children under the age of 18 years) to present an unabridged birth certificate as well as a passport when leaving, transiting or arriving in South Africa. The new regulations are expected to come into effect on 1 October 2014 and require all parents arriving, transiting and departing from South Africa to produce an unabridged birth certificate which reflects the particulars of both parents. In addition, where only one parent is travelling with the children, consent in the form of an affidavit from the other registered parent or a court order, granting full parental responsibilities and rights or a death certificate of the other parent must be produced. For South African citizens, the unabridged birth certificate can be obtained from the Department of Home Affairs and takes approximately six to eight weeks. Airlines will be forced to refuse travel to families not in possession of these documents. New Kenya visa requirements for South Africans 2014-06-17 South African passport holders are now required to apply for a visa prior to travelling or transiting through Kenya. The Kenyan High Commission announced the new rule would come into effect on 1 July, 2014 on its website. Previously South African passport holders were exempt from the visa requirement when travel was for 30 days or less. With the new rule, South Africans are required to pay a R750 visa fee and visas will no longer be issued on arrival in Kenya. Also see: Tanzania scraps visa requirements for SA residents The High Commission said all Visa Service Fees payments should be made at the Kenya High Commission or Embassy premises and that visa processing can be expected to take about 5 working days. All applicants will be required to produce the following documents: 1. Return Air Ticket 2. Invitation letter from the host in the Republic of Kenya 3. Letter from employer/Institution/College/School 4. Proof of funds (bank statement) 5. Applicants must appear in Person for Biometrics 6. 2 Passport Photographs. Holders of Official or Diplomatic Passports travelling on Government business will not be affected by these changes and will continue to get visitor's Passes on arrival at the ports of entry. Countries allowed to travel into Kenya without a visa include Botswana, Brunei, Burundi, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Jamaica, Lesotho, Malawi, Maldives, Mauritius, Namibia, Rwanda, Samozo, San Marino, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tobago, Tonga, Trinidad, Turkey, Uganda, Uruguay, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The move follows the recent rigorous overhaul of South Africa's immigration and visa requirements, which have been called unconstitutional and xenophobic by certain experts. The SA government however defended the move saying it was in the best interest of the country and allowed for the effective management of immigration. We would like to add here that the Bulawayo Publicity Association, as part of the Bulawayo City Council's Historic Sub-Committee, played quite a large part in the overall success of this event. It had the idea to do a re-enactment of the first train steaming into Bulawayo on the 1st June and publicized the safari extensively. We don't have much money but we do our best wherever we can to assist in community projects as well as to publicise Bulawayo as an important tourist destination. The Association has sent to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority office in Beitbridge information on the accommodation, restaurants, tour operators and arts and crafts in Bulawayo as well as a supply of its tourist brochures. Miss Ntuli said the information will be of great value in their office. The Heath Streak Cricket Academy with its various facilities should also serve to enhance Bulawayo's importance in the sporting as well as tourist field. Apart from this, exciting things are happening at the Natural History Museum itself and with its several projects. A hippo display depicting its natural habitat has been set up on the ground floor of the museum. By the way, did you know that hippos can walk on a river bed under water The refurbishing of the Khami Ruins site museum is in progress and the pictorial display with text of Rhodes has been re-established in the car park leading to the graves. Entrance to the Matopos National Park and to Rhodes Grave and San painted caves is $3 and $4 (locals) respectively The Railway Museum, which is open daily, is a great draw card for locals and visitors, and Mr Rob Burrett has written a revised and detailed guide of the artifacts in the museum, which should be available next month. Mr Gordon Murray, the very knowledgeable custodian, is happy to escort people on a tour of the museum. Overland trucks with 30 visitors and more continue to come to Bulawayo on a regular basis and spend at least one day in the Matopos. Comments about their visit here are very positive and lead to wonderful word of mouth publicity when they return to their homes. The Ascot Shopping Centre which is looking very bright and clean, has amongst its shops a well stocked TM Supermarket with its own coffee shop; a vegetable and fruit outlet, butcher shop, chemist, dress shops, and a bookshop which stocks copies of a beautifully illustrated book on Zimbabwe scenes, which would make a very acceptable present for friends, visitors or family. Body Basics is one of the few shops in town which caters mainly for nightwear, most attractive, and underwear. There is also a hairdressing salon and an Italian restaurant specializing in pizzas and pasta. In the center itself is a display of basketwear and weldart figures. The Ascot Library behind the shopping centre has available many new books for children and adults. Books are a gateway to the fascinating world in which we live and the knowledge gained is a social asset wherever you maybe. Wizard of Oz - the Ballet, Directed by Michele Macmillan, is an adaptation of the well loved story by Edgar Frank Baum written in 1900 and made into a Broadway musical in 1993. The movie, starring Judy Garland, opened in 1939, making this year the 75th anniversary of the show. The Bulawayo production features all genres of dancing including ballet, hip hop, tap, acro, modern and contemporary and is the collaborative effort of Desrays Acrobatic Academy, Dance Academy, Mitch Green's Hip Hop, Macdonald Academy of Dancing, Tip Tap Studio and June Cloete Academy of Dance. The family have received no compensation for this accident which totally disrupted their lives and left a little girl with no legs. We are therefore asking the kind hearted Bulawayo public to help us pay for this operation so Precious can walk again. The doctor and anaesthetist have kindly agreed to reduce their fees but there are still hospital costs and costs for adjusting her prosthetics.
