7) Bulawayo News But for seven faster runners and trumped up disqualification charges for the alleged illegal use of a thumb, I was once almost crowned Alfred Beit Egg and Spoon champion. Alas. The words Should've, Could've, Almost Maybe, Stupid *!@ Rules have hung heavily over me these long years. But now I am being given a chance to break not just a record, but a GUNNESS WORLD RECORD!!! On the Saturday the 31st of May at Gateway High School in Harare, the Homefield Centre and Friends are going to SMASH the GUNNESS WORLD RECORD for THREE LEGGED RACING TO smithereens. Words like Try and Attempt and Go for have been omitted deliberately. We are breaking the WORLD RECORD. We are bringing home to Zimbabwe. The record is currently held by the Isle of Man with 649 pairs who successfully completed the two hundred meter course. We are looking to go better than 700 racing pairs!! That's 1400 sets of legs that we need to get tied together and running!!! We are appealing for Schools, Clubs, Companies, Churches etc to get pairs organised for the race day and to start training!! Contestants below a certain age will require signed consent from their guardians or parents to enter. Pairs who do not complete the 200 meter course don't count!!! So we need to start people to train. Already our Homefields team is in training. My farm workers have entered ten pairs and have their sights on winning the gold, the silver and the bronze medals!! And there will also be prizes for the best dressed pairs, the most gravity prone pairs and loads more. The Homefield World Record attempt is a fundraiser. (We are raising money to buy Homefields the new bus they so badly need - sadly our old one is breaking records for kilometres travelled!!!) Pairs will be asked to find sponsorship of just ten dollars to enter. And each racing member will get a personalised World Record Attempt certificate after the event. If you can't find sponsors, let me know and I will find one for you. We need you and a friend up and running!!! We are expecting huge crowds to come and support of the World Breaking attempt. And we're looking to make a full day of it with the all day Homefield's World Record Breaking Festival Fair on the go the same time with loads of fun, loads of stalls and food and jumping castles and lots, lots more. 19) Seeking Friends I recently came across a photo of my father Barry Lucy who lived in Salisbury from I believe 1955-1964 ish. It was taken by Leo Silver. (pic of photo on request). My father sadly died also earlier in 1998. Barry and my mother Marjorie were fond of and started to breed dalmatians at the time there in the1950s and took the 'Msasa' breed back to the UK. They successfully bred quite a few more and at their peak they had some 15-20 dalmatians back in the UK as well as a few prizes from Crufts. My mother and father divorced in 1972-73 and shortly after that the dalmatians were reduced in numbers ( sold and not by euthanasia I hasten to add!) down to 4-6 and then to 2-3 in the years that followed. My brother also a Barry Lucy (now Tom Lucy) was born in 1954 so may have been close by or a topic of conversation when this photo was taken. Alas here it is for a little bit of history. If you have any tiny recollection of my father and any information you are able to share then that would be wonderful. I am now going through a host of photos and negatives to piece together the time they spent in Rhodesia together with some assistance from my brother.
