5) Roses And Raspberries Merry Christmas to you all and thank you for supporting The Mother Trust in 2013. I've written below a few words on the work we have achieved in both the Matobo and Hwange areas as well as in Bulawayo itself. I've tried to keep it brief as most of you will be leaving for your holidays soon and time is short. No doubt I have not included everything. Not many know that we have contributed almost $35 000 to Matobo area this year and this includes Ethandweni Orphanage, child headed homes, Matobo Rurual Clinic, Matobo Rhino Protection Initiative Trust, Whitewaters Primary School and many individuals. In Bulawayo, we helped the SPCA feed their animals at a time when they were pretty broke and our $1000 contribution went a long way to assist them during this stage. Hwange - our support of Nechilibi High School is ongoing with the building of the Girls Dormitory and hopefully this will be completed early 2014. We also received a very specific donation for 1000 chairs and tables for this school from one of Ivory Lodge's Australian guests. They were delivered in time for the end of year O'level and A'Level exams. Yay! Dete Old Age Home has received 3 months of food rations from us this year for their entire home. Ricardo is still at King George V1 - his report shows that he is working harder than in the past, and we believe he is finally growing up and taking on his studies more seriously. Our Danish donor who particularly sponsors Ricardo, was able to buy him another wheelchair this year for his ever growing little body. Its gifts and contributions like this that makes Mother Africa successful - our aim has always been to act as a conduit and assist with donations in reaching the projects that are close to our guest's hearts. As we all know, in Africa, we can't change ones culture or instill our own beliefs on its people, but what we can do is help improve lives, one person at a time. May your God go with you this Christmas time. Sharon and the Mother Africa Trustees. A small crowd of us went to the annual Carols by Candlelight last Tuesday evening. It was absolutely fabulous! The Amphitheatre was full with a "rainbow nation" of people of all ages (when I went 2 years ago we barely filled a third) all singing the traditional carols. The stage was filled with 8/9 school choirs, from the littlies to the seniors, who sang beautifully and from traditional to modern versions with a few stunning solos and fun or Africanised versions of old songs! The only disappointing note was that, despite many of the organisers and back-stage etc being white and the audience a fair mix, not a single white face was amongst the various choirs or actors! (ps. not a racist comment - just an observation!) All moneys raised (entrance is by donation; cool drinks, popcorn, burgers/hot-dogs, etc all sold at non-profit) are for children's charities in Bulawayo and it was great to see the turnout and, thus, money raised for some special kids to have something special this Xmas! Well done to all the kids, the Academy of Music, Rotary and all the schools (teachers, admins and parents) for a wonderful show and a lovely Xmassy evening!
