Our view of things is often quite short-sighted. The long span of human history is a story of victims and victimizers rolling in the dust, first one on top and then another, until all are all finally covered in the dust. There is no better place on earth to see that history than in the Mesopotamian valley where the ancient city of Baghdad is located. In a recent article, Bill Moyers recounted that history: The headline "Marines Cross the Euphrates" got me to thinking.... Do they know? Do they know, these young Marines,
this elite The mighty Darius also crossed the Euphrates, and
on these plains The Euphrates is the largest and longest river of
western Asia. And Adam and Eve, exiled, crossed the Euphrates
fleeing East of Eden. And on these stones is all that remain of
conquests, rebellions and Even Ghengis Khan met his match trying to get
here. The last Five thousand years from now, who will be crossing the Euphrates? What will remain from our time? And what will be remembered? - Bill Moyers A more intelligent kind of war humour... The British speech : (Lt.Col Tim Collins) "If you are ferocious in battle, remember to be magnanimous in victory, We go to liberate, not to conquer. We are entering Iraq to free a people, and only flag that will be flown in that ancient land is their own. Don't treat them as refugees, for they are in their own country. If there're casualties of war, then remember, when they woke up and got dressed in the morning they did not plan to die this day. Allow them dignity in death. Bury them properly and mark their graves. You will be shunned unless your conduct is of the highest, for your deeds will follow you down history. Iraq is steeped in history. It is the site of the Garden of Eden, of the Great Flood and the birth of Abraham. Tread lightly there." The US speech : Vice Admiral Timothy Keating "When the president says 'Go', look out - it's hammer time" (followed by We Will Rock You at high volume). Carol, my right hand, is leaving at the end of May to start a Chef's course in SA. So I urgently need to find a replacement. I need someone responsible and reliable with loads of initiative. Someone who can be counted on to get down and do the job without having to be instructed all the time. Someone who will be able to manage the shop when I am away. She needs to be computer literate and will be expected to input purchases and sales into Pastel. Pastel knowledge not necessary. as it's a very easy programme to learn. She will take over the basic day to day running of the shop. Cashing up, banking, decorating, serving customers, ordering etc. She needs to be presentable and have a very friendly, patient nature. Someone with a dash of energy would be good! I would need her to start in the middle of May. Age is not really an issue as Carol is 18 and I find she is very capable and efficient. Please would you help by forwarding this to as many people as you can. Your help is greatly appreciated. With thanks and best wishes Karen Dalton FOR SALE:

Contact: Ingrid Hugo BULAWAYO CITY COUNCIL The new look at our intersections are very depressing. Ballast stones are very hot and unattractive. Any plants surrounded by this will suffer the heat. While I understand the need to conserve water and energy, there are plants which don't require constant watering, they would serve to keep these intersections as attractive as they have been in the past. There are not many towns that have this intersection feature, and it has always been special to Bulawayo. Hope we can come up with something more attractive than ballast stones. BYO RESIDENT DOMESTIC WORKER RECOMMENDED Anyone need a domestic servant? I am happy to recommend a lady who has done some work for me - she is 30, reliable, efficient. MORE VOICES FROM THE PAST What about 'Uncle Bob" (Bob Ross) and his girlfriend Sonia Hatton? NEVER give up, for that is the time and place that the tide will turn. Some days you're the dog; some days you're the hydrant. "There is always a disposition in people's minds to think
existing conditions will be permanent. They will not." Stay Strong ... ROCK ON MOOD RING My husband bought me a mood ring the other day. You know, the ones that change color to reflect mood changes. When I'm in a good mood it turns green. When I'm in a bad mood, it leaves a red mark on his forehead. Thought for the Day: If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. NO MOVIES SORRY !!
