There have been very few companies in Bulawayo lately, that stick to the moto of the "customer is always right" (even when they're not). The feeling of self doubt, lack of self worth and negative emotional baggage leads to a poor view on ourselves, resulting in a change of behavior, poor health and an inability to move forward positively. We are human! Counseling is a process whereby we talk to heal the pains within, to explore out inner selves and potential. There is no magic wand to make things right. It is up to the individual to bring about change for themselves, as the answer lies within. A counselor acts as a facilitator, and through a working, empathic, intuitive relationship enables the client to take the steps they choose. It is what the client brings to the interaction, their thoughts, feelings, experiences and behaviors. It is a model to understand and sift through the content. SENIOR CITIZENS SERVICE The SCS Vinnicombe clinic is now open; this has been a very good move as we have consolidated all the clinics into one place with a fully qualified SRN on call who is resident in Coronation Cottages. Barbara (our SRN) is a wonderful lady who has a wealth of experience behind her, and we welcome her to the SCS team. We had a grand opening evening with many of the medical fraternity of Bulawayo, who assist SCS, attending, and no electricity.....This worked to our advantage though, as Dr Ferguson very kindly donated a 5kva generator to the clinic as a result! The Pensioners are very impressed with their new clinic and many popped in throughout the renovations to see what was going on. This clinic has given them not only somewhere to see the doctor or nurse, but also the opportunity to be proud that they have a facility like this to call their own. Our equipment from Corimium Care and ZAF (UK) has arrived and is now unpacked and stored in the clinic. Thank you to these wonderful caring people! We have already loaned a wheel chair and a couple of the walkers out to needy Pensioners. This donation has been a huge help to the setting up of the clinic and the assisting of our Pensioners who cannot afford walkers, wheel chairs, crutches, walking sticks etc. Their need is so great and never decreases; it only compounds as the cost of living g s up. We are still looking for dental equipment to set up the dental room - thanks to Corimium care we have the dental x-ray, but still need chair, light, etc. before we can start assisting with dental work for our Pensioners. We have a very long wait list for this and need to get it up and running with some urgency. On the medical aid side we have negotiated a price with Altfin of US$30 per person per month, this will give our Pensioners the critical cover they need for Private hospital, surgery, anesthetist and tests, as well as after-care if needed. This will also cover them for general well-being and part of the medication. This will be a huge help to SCS as it will lessen the burden, but the total cost needed to cover those registered with us is still US$9000 per month. Please everyone, help us to cover this cost! We are starting with those in the greatest need and will add to the system as the funds become available. How about starting an 'adopt a pensioner' program in your area? Sponsor a pensioner at US$30 a month - get together; together we can do anything! On the medicines side we are still supplying to over 300 pensioners a month; at a total cost of $4700 for the last quarter, but if we get the Pensioners on the medical aid this will then be covered to a great extent. FOOD 4 HOMES BULAWAYO This is an on-going project as the need will always be there. The homes cannot afford to charge the correct fees to cover their costs as the pensioners cannot afford to pay, and so they still depend on the assistance from FHB to keep them viable. Our donation from HIZ has been halved due to the recession and this is critical as the amount of dry product that will be delivered will be halved. This puts the homes in a desperate situation. We are looking for help with dry food as well as meat, chickens, venison; anything really that you are able to help with. We were given a donation recently, which we have used to purchase chickens for the homes, and this will guarantee that they will at least have chicken for Christmas lunch. Please, please, this is another project of ours; we need your help to ensure these people have a decent Christmas lunch! For more info please contact me. FUND RAISER We have a Beer & Burger H down on the 22nd October at Southern Comfort Lodge, 22 Jaywick rd, Matsheumhlope, Bulawayo, from 12:30pm onwards. This will be a family fun day with lots of stalls and games and in the evening we will have the H down with music from Gary Stanley. Entrance for the fair is $2 and for the H down is $15, which includes a burger, table & chairs. Get a party together and come and join in the fun and support our Pensioners.
