The Undressing of the Christman Tree

WATCH THAT WAVE

On Telly the other day they had a Dr. Edward Fujimoto from Castle Hospital on the program. He is the manager of the Wellness Program at the hospital. He was talking about dioxins, and how bad they are for us.

He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.

This applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastics, releases dioxins into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Dioxins are carcinogens (cancer causing agents), and highly toxic to the cells of our bodies. Instead, he recommends that we should be using glass, Corning Ware, or ceramic containers for heating food.

You get the same results without the dioxins. So such things as TV dinners, instant pasta and soups, etc. should be removed from the container, and heated in something else.

Paper isn't bad, but you don't know what is in the paper. It is just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He said we might remember when some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

To add to this: Saran (plastic) wrap, placed over foods as they are nuked, with the high heat, actually drips poisonous toxins into the food. Instead, you should use a paper towel.

VIRUS WARNING

During the next several weeks be VERY cautious about opening or launching any e-mails that refer to the World Trade Center or 9/11 in any way, regardless of who sent it.

For those that don't know, 'WTC' stands for the World Trade Center. This is very dangerous because people will open it right away, thinking it's a story relating to 9-11.

Do not open "WTC Survivor".. .It is a virus that will erase your whole "C" drive. It will come to you in the form of an E-Mail from a familiar person.

New Company Rules:

SICK DAYS:
We will no longer accept a doctor's statement as proof of sickness.; If you are able to go to the doctor, you are able to come to work.

SURGERY:
Operations are now banned. As long as you are an employee here, you need all your organs. You should not consider removing anything. We hired you intact. To have something removed constitutes a breach of contract.

PERSONAL DAYS:
Each employee will receive 104 personal days a year. They are called Saturday & Sunday.

VACATION DAYS:
All employees will take their vacation at the same time every year. The vacation days are as follows: Jan. 1, July 10 & Dec. 25

OUT FOR YOUR OWN DEATH:
This will be accepted as an excuse. However, we require at least two weeks notice as it is your duty to train your own replacement.

RESTROOM USE:
Entirely too much time is being spent in the restroom. In the future, we will follow the practice of going in alphabetical order. For instance, all employees whose names begin with 'A' will go from 8:00 to 8:20, employees whose names begin with 'B' will go from 8:20 to 8:40 and so on. If you're unable to go at your allotted time, it will be necessary to wait until the next day when your turn comes again. In extreme emergencies employees may swap their time with a coworker. Both employees' supervisors must approve this exchange in writing.

In addition, there is now a strict 3-minute time limit in the stalls. At the end of three minutes, an alarm will sound, the toilet paper roll will retract, the stall door will open, and the seat will eject you.

DRESS CODE:
It is advised that you come to work dressed according to your salary. If we see you wearing $350 Nike sneakers & carrying a $600 Gucci bag, we assume you are doing well financially and therefore you do not need a raise.

LUNCH BREAK:
Skinny people get an hour for lunch as they need to eat more so that they can look healthy; normal sized people get 30 minutes for lunch to get a balanced meal to maintain the average figure; fat people get 5 minutes for lunch because that's all the time it needed to drink a Slim Fast & take a diet pill.

Thank you for your loyalty to our company. We are here to provide a positive employment experience. Therefore, all questions, comments, concerns, complaints, frustrations, irritations, aggravations, insinuations, allegations, accusations, contemplations, consternation's or input, should be directed elsewhere.

Have a nice week.

THE IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE

A philosophy professor stood before his class with some items on the table in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, about 2" in diameter.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He then asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "Yes."

The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and proceeded to pour their entire contents into the jar - effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, your children - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter - like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else. The small stuff." "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued "there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.

Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show  you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers."

2 LOVELY HOUSES TO RENT (AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY)

The first house has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, one en-suite. A big lounge and a big dinning room with fitted carpets and overhead fan, average kitchen with walk in pantry. Double garage with 3 outside store rooms, staff quarters and a lovely garden and vegetable garden with borehole. Inside a security fence.

The second house is a large modern thatched house - with a breathtaking view. A big rambling home, 5 bedrooms all en-suite, large veranda/lounge/bar, dinning room, newly refurbished kitchen, walk in pantry, 3 outside store rooms, staff quarters a small plunge swimming pool and a charming braai and entertainment area, overlooking a fantastic view and watering hole frequented by many species of bird/wildlife.

Would really suite a young family who would love to bring their kids up in the African bush or an elderly couple who are tired of the city. The second would also be perfect as a corporate home for a business to house visiting business men traveling to Bulawayo.

Both houses are situated 20mins (18kms) drive out of Bulawayo, on a farm (not being hassled by war vets!) Both are inside a game fence so sightings of giraffe, Zebra etc etc are common from the front lawns.

We are offering very reasonable rentals, to good tenants who will respect and take care of these magnificent homes!!

UPDATE:
Our last distribution date in 2002 was the 18th December. I am happy to advise that we were able to make up really “special” grocery, meat, fruit and vegetable hampers which included “Christmas treats” and furthermore, each lady received a very nice Christmas gift.

The support from the public has been nothing less than overwhelming, this in turn, enabling S.O.A.P. to widen its circle of support to the elderly. Not only have we received donations in cash, we have also received a huge amount of foodstuffs which we include in our monthly distributions.

44 individuals benefited from the food distribution hampers and a further 7 individuals who reside at institutions received our partial support hampers which consist of toiletry requisites, biscuits, fruit juice cordial and sweets, bringing our total of recipients to 51. However, names continue to be submitted for consideration.

I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the following people:

Becky Kay and Dave Gill who assist each month to distribute the hampers, a HUGE THANKS.

Bertha Lee who goes to so much trouble to make up the fruit + vegetable packs, and also for baking mince pies for inclusion in the xmas packs. Thank you also to Farm Fresh customers who also donated mince pies.

Carol Warren, who runs a shuttle service between Hillside Hardware and my house delivering all the groceries which are donated by the customers and other well – wishers.

Margie Kriel who is always so willing to give of her time to ensure the public are kept up to date on the activities of S.O.A.P.

Within the next fortnight the December quarterly finance report will be posted out to everyone who contributed in cash or kind over the past three months.

In the meantime, on behalf of each and every one of the 51 beneficiaries, I thank you all for your interest and generosity. Below I have copied just three of the many many thank you letters which I receive each month. No doubt they will tug at your heart-strings just as they did mine.

From a lady at Coronation Flatlets:

Dear Friends,

This is just a note to say Thank you for the parcels I have been receiving from you. And what parcels!, so full of goodies which today are way beyond our pockets. However, it is not only the parcels that are so very welcome, it is knowing that there are still kind and caring people who think about us even when we become old and useless. So this Old Dear says a Big Thank-you and as per your logo, it certainly “makes a difference”.

From a lady at Garden Park Flats:

Dear Mrs. Abbot and all members of S.O.A.P.

Just a little note to say thank you for the parcels you gave me and what a lovely surprise it was and very much appreciated and needed, but the nicest thing of all is to know that there are still people who are concerned about the Old Age Pensioners. I cant explain to you all what that means to me. God bless you all.

From a Gent at Coronation Flats:

To all the Wonderful People of S.O.A.P.

I wonder if you know how much your kindness meant to me. You showed me with your love just what a blessing is meant to be. Thank you and God bless you all, each and every one who has contributed towards these wonderful parcels of goodies. This is appreciated so much.
