UNITED NATIONS SURVEY

At the recent Summit in Johannesburg, a worldwide survey was conducted by the UN the only question asked was:

"Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortages in the rest of the world"

The survey was a HUGE failure...

  • In Africa they didn't know what "food" meant.

  • In Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" meant.

  • In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant.

  • In China they didn't know what "opinion" meant.

  • In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant.

  • In South America they didn't know what "please" meant.

  • And in the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant.

HEALTH SCARE OF THE WEEK

Scientists may have discovered the reason behind the rise in allergies.

One in 100 children is now allergic to nuts and peanuts have become the most common cause of fatal allergic reactions to food. Scientists suggest that the cause of this phenomenon ay be the nut oils used in eczema creams for babies.

Researchers at St Marys Hospital in London conducted a one year study of 14,000 children and parents. Nine out of ten children who developed a nut allergy had previously suffered from eczema, suggesting that the treatment creams used may have sensitised their immune systems.

In eczema the skin barrier breaks down and there is an abundance of immune cells in the skin that could be exposed to substances that cause allergies.

S.O.A.P.

(SUPPORT of OLD AGE PENSIONERS)

SOAP is an organisation run by a group of Bulawayo citizens who endeavour to care for the needs of white Old Age Pensioners who are struggling to live on their tiny incomes.

With all good faith these old people have paid their pension contributions faithfully each month for their entire lives, only to find these pensions totally worthless in the new millennium.

One couple in North End live on a Municipal income of $300 (Zimbabwe dollars !) a month........!!

SOAP distributes 19 food parcels each month to folk around Bulawayo and the Bulawayo public has been tremendous with their fantastic donations. Blankets were donated in winter by one of our wonderful anonymous benefactors and if the old folk have a problem with funds we will assist them in this way too.

We have a few dollars in the coffers but need a few more if this scheme is to continue.

Find out more about SOAP by e mailing Pat at "thedonz@mweb.co.zw" or Mags at "magskriel@mac.com" or phone Lynne on 230070.

SMALLS

We are looking to buy a copy of Keith Coates Palgrave "Trees of Southern Africa" We have recently been on an houseboat on Kariba and the Captain Adam, is a very enthusiastic environmentalist and showed great interest in learning the names of the trees, he would borrow our book every evening and sit making notes.

With Adam's keen interest in learning the indigenous trees of Zimbabwe, we are trying to could track down a book we would buy for Adam.

If anyone has a second hand one for sale we would be very interested, failing that, are they still available new??

STRESS and tension? Back, neck, muscular pains, headaches, nervous stomaches, etc., etc…………….?!!!!!!

The therapies I offer can help, even if you do not believe in them. All the therapies are gentle and relaxing, non invasive and are performed through clothing.

BOWEN therapy consists of gentle movements, over specific key points, which release blocked energy, allowing maximum healing to take place. Bowen therapy is characterized by 2 min pauses between movements, giving the body time to respond.

REIKI is a very subtle, but powerful form of natural healing. It induces deep relaxation and relieves stress and tension. Reiki is not a religion or belief system, and anyone can do it, providing they have been Initiated by a Reiki Master.

BOWEN/REIKI Combination is the ultimate in Relaxation treatments.

REFLEXOLOGY is a form of healing which uses the feet to stimulate natural healing and promote good health.

For any, or combinations of the above, contact

SUE BRIDGEFORD.

TIDBITS

Motorists must now buy car radio licenses and display them in their cars. The license is $144 and fines will be imposed if the driver does not possess a radio license. I believe they are available at Thelwalls garage in Samuel Parienyatwa and leopold Takawira, opposite the AA of Zimbabwe.
