Domestic Goddess

My incredible housekeeper has taken a couple of weeks leave and subsequently I have taken over the role of 'Domestic Goddess'.

It's a big house! Far too big for just HeeHoo and me but housework is an excellent way of keeping warm in this freezing weather. I always feel guilty when we have guests from overseas, as our Zim homes are not centrally heated, they are built for beautiful summers and consequently, we are all glass and windows resulting in freezing nights and mornings.

But there is nothing like a spot of housework to keep oneself warm.. except for Karma....

Our carpets are beige and an evil spirit has tampered with the drainage in the indoor garden, resulting in lots of digging and loads of mud...Our daughter educated us in Sweden to remove our shoes on entry, but we spoilt rotten Zimbos have never done that. What would you rate scrubbing the muddy marks off the beige carpet, on a scale of one to ten Very warming indeed....

Zimbos are not known to close windows and doors, that used to be a major concern once upon a time, when we had four dogs and four cats!! And the dust.

The cooking has not been too much of a problem, HeeHoo has put himself on a strict diet and one Bobotie with a side of garlic zucchini, can last three nights!! My repertoire of cookery skills has diminished rather since our precious Major Domo Charlie died in 2008. Life in this house is not dated by births, deaths and marriages, but rather goes by timeous BC (Before Charlie) and AC (After Charlie).

It is not that I am a stranger to housework I hasten to add, on our frequent stays 'overseas' I have become quite a work horse, but 'overseas' they do not have nasty maggot flies which necessitates ironing absolutely everything!!

A quick tumble in the dryer and there you go. HeeHoo on holiday, does not seem to mind if his shirts look as though they have been 'dragged through a bush backwards' whereas when he goes to the office in Bulawayo he is kinda pedantic about his 'creases'.

Creases in shirts and trousers are foreign to me, I can never line them up somehow!!
And as for ironing sheets...

Ironing sheets is not for short people I have decided, whoever invented ironing boards did not take into account short people!! I can deal with ironing the pillow cases only..

My darling sons-in-law both hailed from large families and they just do not understand that we spoilt rotten Zimbos cannot possibly look after six children, clean, cook and iron sheets!!
