IN DEFENCE OF CROWS!

Although crows prey on songbirds and their young, research suggests that they do not ordinarily have a significant impact on songbird populations.
We should protect crows because:
-Crows help control pest insects and 'clean up' dead animals.
-Crows transport and store seeds, contributing to forest renewal.
-Crows' preferred food is animal carcasses (carrion), so they help to keep the environment clean.
-Crows are an important part of a functional system. The more we interfere, the more the system becomes dysfunctional.
-A crow family can eat 40,000 grubs, caterpillars, armyworms and other insects in one nesting season. That's a lot of insects many gardeners and farmers consider pests.

He also said that we should respect crows because:
- Crows are intelligent; they make tools and scientists have studied their problem-solving and communication skills.
For example, when a crow encounters or meets a mean or negative human, it will teach the other crows how to identify that human.
Crows mate for life
Crows have a formal pecking order and use it wisely. ...
Crows conserve food.
Crows work together when necessary to solve problems
Crows grieve the death of one of their kind or those of other species who they know.

I hope that this gives the Mirror readers some food for thought and stops the senseless killing of these majestic creatures. The way to stop them taking baby birds as food is to stop spraying insects, supplement their food and water sources in certain seasons, and also to attract insects to gardens and parks using lights, planting and water.

We desperately need secure storage & packing space in Bulawayo to keep doing what we are doing (1300m2) . Our current space which we have used for 10 years free of charge is coming to an end. We are currently supporting just over 1050 destitute pensioners in 26 homes / organizations throughout Zimbabwe and have been doing this for almost 23 years.

For most of them we are a lifeline that they cannot survive without. We have been quoted an average of $3.00 a m2. This comes to about $6000 USD a month. It is just not financially viable to spend this amount of money a month on anything other than the desperately needed food aid. With all the large empty properties around Bulawayo there must be somebody who can assist us.

Essombalogik", a musical show with Marsi Essomba

Saturday 16th November - 6pm - free entrance

Marsi Essomba is a Cameroonian slammer, guitarist, rapper and producer. He has nourished his experience by collaborating with big names in African music such as Lokua Kanza, Ticken Jah Fakoly or Marc Alexandre Oho Bambe aka Captain Alexandre.
He will present his new show "Essombalogik", a transversal show that mixes hip-hop, slam, storytelling and Ekang. This concert, described as a "cocktail of scents", offers a fusion of plural vibrations where ages and places marry. This innovative approach allows Essomba to explore new artistic dimensions and to offer an immersive and original musical experience.
For this shown he will be performing along local jazz artist Josh Meck.

This event will also present a first act coming back to the last Paris 2024 Olympic Games with feedbacks from Zimbabwean athletes and the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, the presentation of the 7th and 8th episodes of "Lost in Translation", as well as poetry and slam performances with local artists and Marsi Essomba.

Bold Dialogue is an intuitive wellness platform that facilitates healing, ignites hope and brings the possibility of boldly living a life that honours your passions and dreams. "We work with women across Africa, equipping them with the support, mentorship and tools required to transcend trauma in order to truly operate from a place of excellence" states Barbs.

"We are going to use letters written to various people who had a hand in traumatising the writer to invoke healing conversations with the crowd. We also hope to bring emotional catharsis to the listeners. This series of letters is called Stringed Moments".

The Words Matter Show is a free-expression platform that aims to harness the power of words to break down communication barriers and foster understanding. Performances will be conducted by WeCre8te Afrika before a 1 hour open mic.

SoxThePoet, the currator of this event, is a spoken word artist from Zimbabwe.
