Our Suburb called 'Suburbs' in Bulawayo is taking on a brand new elegant image. Formerly renowned for its glorious shady Jacaranda Trees, wide garden verges, and quaint colonial homes with wide verandas, it is now becoming the home of Bankers, Accounting Firms, Legal Establishments, Opticians, Estate Agents, Doctors Rooms, Beauty Salons and more importantly restaurants.
Great modern homes and offices are rising like Phoenix from the ashes of tiny little homes built after the Second World War. The stands are vast in Suburbs, and it is becoming a mecca for gated communities and town houses.
I was born in Lawley Road, spent my teens in Livingstone Road, and now live in Pauling Rd, having moved just three blocks in my whole life! I am so old that I remember when every block has a 'sanitary lane' dividing the houses, where the Municipal Trash Carts would drive through and collect the tin garbage cans!
Restaurants abound in Suburbs, we have the Mozambik right behind us, the aroma of garlic and prawns makes HeeHoo's mouth water daily. HeeHoo even dreams of building a gate from our house to the restaurant one day! We have the Shangrila at the end of our block, both within easy walking distance. Then we have the Bowery just one block away, Zen Cafe is further away but still in Suburbs, Amore is a couple of blocks down towards town with the Garden Bistro just one block further.
Thank goodness we have Karls Gymnasium 'Bodysculpt' at McDonald Club to keep the weight off after all this eating.!!
A very new addition to our cosmopolitan suburb is the quaint little village square comprising two giant and very busy padel courts, complete with a small pool and a delightful playground, 2 championship squash courts, a lovely little restaurant run by Jackie and a soon to be garden nursery.
We have a cricket club and a lawn bowls club on the northern boundary, a hockey stadium on the eastern boundary, two sports clubs in the west, another sports club on the southern border plus we have our magnificent museum within walking distance and our soon to be magnificent Centenary Park close by.
We are indeed a sought after little addition to the Bulawayo CBD!!
