To all our friends and donors,
S.O.A.P. (Supporting Old Age Pensioners) supplies groceries to approximately180 pensioners in Bulawayo, who live either in their own homes or at Coronation Cottages, Masonic Homes, Garden Park and Rhodes Jubilee Cottages by delivering a parcel on the 2nd Wednesday of each and every month throughout the year. We are an independent organisation, which has existed since early 2002 and are not in any way associated with any other charitable group, this includes S.O.A.P. Harare. All our work is purely voluntary and no deductions are made from any donation. Many pensioners often do not receive enough money to buy even one loaf of bread a month showing what hardships pensioners face today.
For the month of December our outgoings are in the region of Z$8,000,000 (EIGHT MILLION) which is donated in either cash or goods, naturally this expenditure increases every month. As many people will know, S.O.A.P this year organised its own very successful fundraiser at Whitestone School on the 29th of October. Latterly there have been several other fund-raising events where people have assumed that funds raised have been given to S.O.A.P. this has not been the case. Confusion seems to exist, with many people automatically expecting us to be the recipient of the many worthwhile fundraisers that are held in Bulawayo under the general heading of helping the elderly.
In the past month there have been fundraisers at a restaurant and also a sports club where many people understood that money was to be donated to S.O.A.P. although we received nothing. Also we hear that parcels of foodstuffs have been collected in South Africa for the elderly in Bulawayo and once again it has been thought that 'our' pensioners were the beneficiaries although again we have received nothing. With cases like these is it any wonder that it is believed that we receive much more help than we actually do?
Should anyone be in doubt of how to contact S.O.A.P. please would they use the details at the heading of this letter to avoid SOAP being confused with any other organisation? Also please note that we have not operated from Clark Road since early 2005. Should you wish to help any of the other very worthwhile charities or help groups operating in Bulawayo at the moment may we suggest that you contact The Bulawayo Help Network, which is a referral centre that puts pensioners in touch with other forms of help. They are open Monday to Friday mornings at 57 Josia Tongogora Street, between 4th and 5th Avenues, 'phone 65383 if you are unsure of where any donations need to be deposited they will be able to help.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of YOU who contribute for your continued help, without which SOAP would be unable to carry on helping those who have saved all their working lives for their retirement but to no avail. Lots of folk are getting stopped by the Police and charged for driving through an 'AMBER' traffic light!
The schedule of deposit fines does state that driving through an amber light is an offence!
However, it also states that ' if the vehicle is within 20m of the lights when it changes to amber, and the vehicle cannot safely be stopped then it can proceed'! If you get stopped and you feel that you were in the right, then do challenge them and take it to court. Better still if you have a witness who can testify how far you were from the light and what speed you were doing when it changed so much the better!! You are innocent until proven guilty! Don't let them bully you!

CLAMPING OF VEHICLES

VEHICLES FOUND PARKED IN A NON PARKING ZONE ARE BEING CLAMPED BY CITY COUNCIL OFFICIALS. IT TAKES A LOT OF ENERGY TO GET THEM UN CLAMPED INCLUDING A LENGTHY WAIT IN A DREADED REVENUE HALL QUEUE. THE MAYORESS OF DUNCAN ROAD KNOWS THE ROPES VERY WELL NOW, ITS A HOT AND STICKY BUSINESS SO BE GOOD NOW !!!

This product is called Faxtastic powerfax and is a fax to email service provider.

It allows people to send a fax directly to an email address by using a 0866 number. This product can be used by Zimbabweans to receive faxes from South Africa directly to their email inbox free of charge. The sender pays for the fax; the recipient receives it free of charge. How this works is, the email address (e.g. Bulawayo@zimbabwe.co.zw) is assigned a fax to email number ( e.g. 0866xxxxxxx).This number is now the fax to email number and it now receives faxes and forwards them directly to your email inbox, in a TIFF picture attachment. A TIFF program link is provided free of charge for those who can't view the TIFF file. It can also be used for receipt of international faxes (being senders outside of South Africa) but this requires a monthly rental fee of R20. You can also send faxes from your email program to fax machines but this is charged for and the applicable charges are in accordance with international dialling.

Both Andy and Grant Flower have re newed their contracts with Essex,Sean Ervine will be returning to Hampshire,Heath Streak to Warwickshire,Ray Price will be returning to Worcestershire,as well as Graeme Hick,and Murray Goodwin to Sussex.

I believe that Noel Peck,the ex ZCU groundsman from Queens,is now the groundsman or assistant groundsman at Loughbrough University.

I will be returning to Surrey County Cricket Club for my 3rd season as their dressing room attendant, 3 other counties approached me to take over the running of their players dressing rooms,Northants,Somerset and Sussex.
