MATER DEI HOSPITAL
On Friday night the 5th floor of the Mater Dei hospital burnt down. One elderly lady on that floor died. Our local fire brigade were amazing. We all watched as they battled with the equipment they had to control the blaze, and truely only prayer and brave persistence achieved this. The people who gave freely of their help with no thought to their own safety was a true reflection of the spirit we all know exists in this country. The first cause and damage assessment is being done.

The Mater Dei hospital is and has always been, for all of US, a source of comfort and an institution we have been extremely grateful for. For whatever reason, we have all, at some stage, benefited from Mater Dei.

This is an appeal for you to use whatever contacts or resources available to you to raise funds to repair the hospital as soon as possible. Please pass this appeal on to whoever comes to mind.

Noticed in Morning Mirror 151, some individual advised about fraudulent $20,000 bearers cheque. I have since checked with Barclays Bank who informed me that only the early manufactured bearer cheques, (15 September 2003 issue), did not have the RBZ watermark. In order to be 100% sure that these notes are real check the metal strip on the notes, which should have RBZ embossed through the metal strip.

This is how rumours get started so please advise your readers in the next issue regarding above.

CRIME AWARENESS BULAWAYO UPDATE written and compiled by Tracey Burns 26/08/05 British Statesman in the 18th Century - Edmunde Burke said "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." Crime is everywhere in the world, and comes in so many forms that some people may not even realise that it is taking place - as such sometimes these are the subtleties of crime.

ZIMBABWEAN FARMERS

RW & DB Baldwin, Cobblecundy, Gore Highway, Goondiwindi, Q'ld are seeking to sponsor a Zimbabwean Farming family.

We are beginning this process with the idea of sponsoring the family to provide them with support and assistance to establish themselves and build a new life for themselves in our farming community. We are in a position to advance establishment costs should this be necessary.

Although the position is for a male family man farm worker, there will be an opportunity for different family members to work as required on an hourly rate basis when specific projects require greater input. The rates of pay with respect to these duties will be negotiated with the Farm Manager at commercial rates. The position would not suit a supervisor. It is very much a hands on multi skilled working position.

The position will be available from mid November 2005 onwards.

not to scare you but...

Women.... In light of the recent kidnapping and now murder of Leigh Mathews I think it is important to read the following info for your own safety.

Things women should know to stay safe:
Please take the time to read these pointers.
There may just be one or two you hadn't thought of.

After reading this, forward it to someone you care about. It never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in.
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it,do!
2. If a robber asks for your handbag, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you.... he is probably more interested in your handbag than you and he will go for the handbag. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the boot of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm through the hole and start waving. The driver won't see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
4.Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their cheque book, or making a list). DON'T DO THIS! A predator could be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, and attack you. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.
5. A few notes about getting into your car in a car park: A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and check the back seat. B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most attackers surprise their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars. C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the shop, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY (And better paranoid than dead.)
6. ALWAYS take the lift instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot.)
7.If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!
8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked "for help" into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.
9. Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her 'Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door." The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, "We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door." He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear babies' cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night. Please pass this on and DO NOT open the door for a crying baby.
I'd like you to forward this to all the women you know. It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle. I was going to send this to the ladies only, but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc., you may want to pass it onto them, as well.
Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it's better safe than sorry. The above is directed at women, but remember guys you may also be targeted the same way or your girlfriend/wife.

I wonder if anyone would be interested in having a personalised CD with music of their own choice? I can't do the classics, but popular music from the 50's, 60's, 70's and so on. You can get about twenty tunes on a normal CD. I don't profess to have every tune ever brought out, but if you give me a list of, say, 30 tunes, I could do quite a high percentage of them. This would make a super gift for someone to recall the good old days. I can be contacted at : glyntonybw@zol.co.zw

FOUND CAT

On the 23 of August a beautiful blue eyed cat, four white paws dark brown tail white tummy and chest beige and liverbrown colours in his back and black spot under his or her chin, has been hanging around my home. He is in very good condition so very affectionate loves human contact. I live on 118 Marimba Road. I have fed it for two nights but had to take it to the S.P.C.A. as I have little Daxies who have never seen a cat and have had a hair raising two days, of cat meowing and dogs howling ! If anyone has lost this cat please phone Lydia or Stoki on 281664 or 286628 or phone the S.P.C.A. By the looks of things its never had kittens so it must have been spayed, if female or neutered if male. If the owners do not claim this cat we are looking for a loving home for it. thestokis@netconnect.co.zw.
