NEWS RELEASE MARCH 27 2005 AWARDS ONE

Zimbabwe's annual advertising awards competition is to be revived after a break of six years, following a decision by the Advertising and Publicity Club of Harare to take on the organisation of the event.

A club spokesman said it had been approached by a number of advertising agencies to take on the running of the competition and awards ceremony and it had agreed to do so after obtaining widespread support from most of the country's advertising houses and after obtaining a measure of commercial support from the agencies and other organisations to make this possible.
'After much deliberation, we saw it as a good way to position the Advertising and Publicity Club as a key component of within the overall communications industry and to play our part in helping raise standards of advertising by encouraging and rewarding excellence in the business,' he said.
Entry forms for the competition are now available, and entry is open to any person or organisation producing advertising material in Zimbabwe. The material should have been produced and flighted in the calendar year 2004 and must have been conceptualised and produced within the country.
The deadline for receipt of entries is Tuesday April 4 and more information can be obtained from the APC executive secretary, Judy Macdonald, on Harare 870306 or by contacting organising committee member Bonny Woodman on either (04) 499701 or 011 745523.

The 20 categories range from press and magazine advertising to radio and television advertisements and from billboard and other outdoor advertising to use of electronic methods such as Internet and e-mail. There will be an overall campaign of the year award and a special award for innovation in advertising.
Three judges will make deliberations once all the material has been submitted and the panel will include two eminent local personalities and one top South Africa advertising agency chairman. The awards presentations will be made at a special ceremony in Harare on Friday May 6.
'This will be a modest re-start of what has in the past been a useful means of promoting excellence in advertising,' said the APC spokesman.
'Although the APC was not previously involved in the organisation of the old advertising awards, we feel excited by the prospects of making this a worthwhile and exciting event.'
Among the sponsoring organisations are DHL, Meikles Hotel, British Airways operated by Comair, Travel Connections and the Interprint and Interpak group.

THOUGHTS FROM ABROAD

I am an ex-Zimbabwean who is trying to locate some ex-school colleagues who went to school at Que-Que High School circa 1969 - 1973.
Sandra Mountain or Jennifer Mountain (that would be their maiden names) - this is a long-shot Robert Dill-Russell Jose' or David De Pinho Karen Hodgson (that would be her maiden name) - this is also a long-shot
I came across one name on the link below; Karen Hodgson who I would like to contact or at least first establish whether this is indeed the same Karen "Pecker" Hodgson who had a brother Sam. Both were boarders at Que-Que High School as was I.

LOOKING FOR OLD FRIEND
I am looking for an old friend who used to work here in the Netherlands. When I 'googled' his name I got several hits and one of them was your internet 'newspaper'.
I am looking for Frank Walkington. What I remember is that his parents live(d) in Bulawayo where he was born as well. He has a son (whose name I cannot remember but might very well have been Frank as well). If I remember well he was born in 1948. I met him when he was working for a Dutch engineering company, after that he left for Durban to finish building his boat and worked there for, I think a Capetown engineering company. We wrote for a while and I was supposed to go to S.A. after the winter, but life got in the way and we lost track of each other. I was in Zimbabwe in 1992. (The best vacation ever) and on the way to Matopos came through Bulawayo. Had a couple of minutes left and looked up his name in the telephone directory, found it, but did not have the nerve to phone.

On your site, unfortunately under the obituaries, I found his name. Logic says that this must be his father and there is also mention of a son (Frankie). Probably Frank is not living in Zimbabwe as he planned to go to the Caribbean.

Could you maybe give me a hint as to where to look for further information. Rest assured I am a not deranged internet stalker about to ruin other people's lives. I just would like to know how he's is doing, whether he managed to do what he wanted etc.

I would very much appreciate your help, Renee Koolen hebbus2003@yahoo.com
