The beautiful blue-headed lizards you were discussing some mirrors ago,
seem to have emigrated to Matola in Mozambique. We were very sad to
abandon our resident lizards in Bulawayo, but have been delighted to
see that they packed their bags and followed us here!
Bruce saw a magnificent specimen in a large tree in a new friend's
garden and we often see smaller ones on our walks across to our
daughter Lisa's house.
It is amazing to see how nature is recovering in Mozambique after the
prolonged war and the recent devastating floods. The people, too, are
rediscovering their work ethic after struggling for years merely to
survive. New buildings and massive investments are evident all over
Maputo and its surrounds. Driving in Maputo is an interesting
experience, as the only rule of the road seems to be survival of the
fittest, fastest and fearless! Two lane roads become four lanes, three
lanes or even one lane depending on the mood of the people! And road
rage is not an issue as there is no point in getting angry because
nobody cares - just smile and carry on!

of her friends to Chris Brittlebank, a pilot for Air Zim. I googled
his name, and ran across your article of his mothers passing, nothing
else of Chris. He was very kind to me (and his friend Fish) over the
course of the several years I was in and out of Zimbabwe. He was kind
enough to allow me and a few friends from Alaska stay at his home for a
couple of days maybe 5 years back.

"Thieves broke into our house in the early hours of Thursday 9th
December and stole the following:

Panasonic DVD-S25 DVD player, serial no. VC3JA001227
Panasonic NV-SJ230AU VCR, serial no. B3TB00491
All are silver in colour and less than 18 months old, since we had a
similar break-in last July and had to replace the TV and VCR then. None
will have the correct remote control with them, and the power cords for
the TV and VCR were cut off and would only be a few inches long unless
they are replaced before sale. Please, if you are offered these items
for sale, contact HillsideC.I.D. at Hillside Police Station in
Bulawayo. Also think twice before buying any item which might be stolen
- someone has just had their treasured possessions removed, their
privacy violated, and how would you feel in the same situation?
We suspect the culprits are using a light coloured Mercedes sedan as
well as two other vehicles. At least one other house in our road was
burgled at the same time, and both our house and the other have what we
regard as very good security."
