Gratitude          - 30/8/2016      <--Prev : Next-->

As I gather my thoughts to think of ways to adequately express the gratitude of all at Edith Duly,
I find myself turning to avenues of definition - What is gratitude

Wikipedia defines
Gratitude, thankfulness, gratefulness, or appreciation is a feeling or attitude in acknowledgment
of a benefit that one has received or will receive.

Albert Schweitzer says 'At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another
person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.'

But what is Gratitude

Colloquially, gratitude is an expression of thanks and appreciation. However, gratitude has its
origins as a distinct emotion. Typically, the feeling lasts for only a few seconds, as a recognition of the
intentional, beneficial actions of others. (Amit Amin)

But surely such definitions are too limiting And how do they translate into benefit

At Edith Duly Nursing Home we are extremely grateful for the revenue generated via the adverts placed
in the weekly editions of The Morning Mirror. Every dollar that comes our way enables us to provide
the little extras that ensure a more pampered and enjoyable experience for our beloved 'Golden Oldies'.
Whether it be for a celebration birthday tea or a memorial farewell for a departed friend; a scrumptious
feast day meal; a lick of paint to brighten a dingy wall and of late, the provision of adult colouring books
and large piece jigsaw puzzles, our gratitude is limitless.

Your kindness to us is appreciated even more as we consider the numerous advertising options available
to you - but you choose to help us!

In addition to the advertisers, we wish to thank:
The staff of Loscon who have so diligently collected your payments over the last few years - your service to us has not gone unnoticed.
Thank you Softrite for agreeing to take over from Loscon!
and Precious in our office who assists advertisers who are not able to place their adverts direct.

But always, our gratitude to Margaret Kriel abounds as she tirelessly produces editorial and sorts the
content of each edition.
Congratulations Granny Mags, and Grandpa Rick, your long awaited grandchild has finally arrived!

Thank you, thank you to all

'Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial
into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house
into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today,
and creates a vision for tomorrow.' - Melody Beattie
